John Stones transfer saga

But with respect, did Bristol City have a better squad than us? Has their higher spend given them a better squad now?

I personally don't care about what others spend, as long as we get what we need. The only time I take an interest is when the RS spend a fortune on flops! That's good for football!

Indeed I wonder how much they committed in wages to the new contracts they handed out.

Oh and its good for humanity as well as football.

...I think Reidy is also saying (on the sly) "think you're up to it, lad? Really? Pffft".

And he'd have a point too.

Think this is a fair point, if Stones was ready to walk into their first team than I wouldn't really blame him for leaving for the defending champions. The major selling point for him to stay is that he's getting first team experience week-in week-out in a system that suits him beside a very experienced centre half.

Stones is more than aware of how unlikely it would be for him to become a starter at Chelsea, and I doubt he looks at Lukaku's decision as a poor career move.

Stones value is only going to go up up, Chelsea know this as do Everton. Why sell now to upset the team and squad, stones will get into the England set up over the course of the season, he will go to the euros play in that, the figure then is close to 45 - 50 mil then we may sell.
In the mean time Roberto look for replacements.

That would the sane approach.

Is the obvious answer and the one which we know should be the route taken. But, if Bill's mates get a whiff of 35m+ could be coming in, they will have his locker room cleared out before you can say "get Alcaraz back".

The only way to get them off Everton's back is with a scorched earth approach, whereby fans vote with their feet and also keep a high profile campaign up against them in the media.

Anything short of that and they are on easy street for as long as they want. No investment, no commercial improvement outside the tv revenue all clubs get, no stadium. Another decade or so of that.

The fan base isn't there yet Dave

You can't go from one extreme to the other

The fan base has to gradually come around to that viewpoint or something extroadinary has to happen to get the support to turn on their heels

On the plus side, Kevin Campbell said Stones should stay during an interview on Talksport this morning.
Love Kevin Campbell. goes to show the club touching you is down to the quality of your personality rather than success at the club.

One thing that has been touched on is Stones growing in value but another way of looking at this if we had proper business people in charge is that keep hold of Stones and we have 40 mill plus of asset in the squad. We can invest against it. Spend the money, keep the player, knowing if it goes wrong we can balance the books later. (i know people will say, what if...but there is always a what if even if we sell..) Hate talking about the club as a business but if we are going to do it lets do it properly and not use the blag economics the country is suffering from #votecorbyn #stonesnotforsale
