I'm involved in this one but it's a combination of a lot of writers on the site

I think I was by far the most grumpy and negative

Go me ;)

Don't agree, kinect brought some great gaming moment in our house with my family. Out dancing each other in dance central was always happening. Just because you don't like it, doesn't mean it was as a water of time. Can't wait for VR, playing Alien isolation with VR will be great unless the VR makes me sick. Hope not.

That's fine mate

I'm happy for you to have what you want and me to have what I want

The problem is they're trying to force what you like on to me, hence why it annoys me

As an optional peripheral I'm fine with both VR and Kinnect. I'll just ignore them and get on with my own gaming. But, it looks like the gaming industry are trying to force this as an essential part of the experience, which winds me up

It's like going the match. Want to chant and be a bit rowdier? You sit in the Gwladys. Want to sit in a more reserved area? You sit in the Main Stand. You can tailor your match experience to the one that best suits you. You're free to make a choice and so is the other person

The video games industry is trying to do away with choice by forcing this down our throats, which is why I'm bothered

I don't get that mate. If you don't want it, don't buy/use it. I don't have the camera thing on my PS4, and have no reason to get it and do not feel forced to get it.

My point is that they want to make it so you HAVE to have it

Remember when they said you had to have Connect for the X Box One and how they had to back track when the majority of gamers reacted so negatively to it?

They WANT you to have to have a Connect and a VR Headset, because it's more extra crap they can sell you

Again, if they make VR an optional thing, that's absolutely fine. People who want it can buy it and I can get on with my own life just playing games normally. However, I genuinely think they're going to push this as an essential thing, hence why I'm speaking out against it. They want to take away the right to choose and tailor your own gaming experience, because it's more profitable for them to do so

Of course they want you to have it mate. That's how they make money.

They want you to buy the new consoles too. That's why they make them.

I don't come in the ale house much but I thought I'd share that if you're into console games such as Skyrim/Oblivion that I've been playing The Witcher III: The Wild Hunt for the last month and it is awesome. If you like that kind of thing like me, it's a must!

I bought wreckfest but didn't realise it was still early access have to wait a bit to play it.

Been on a binge buying games recently sadly only darksouls 2 floats my boat and i end up back there.

I have purchased (recently)-

Evil within
alien isolation
spiderman 2
batman a.city
the banner saga
elite: dangerous
witcher 3
blackguards
southpark(purely because you lot raved about it)
thief
FTL
rogue legacy
chaos on deponia
age of wonders 3

I think i may enjoy the thrill of purchasing a new game than actually playing them, i hate steam and it's sales, i'm a sucker.

And you'd be wrong.

And You'd be naive

Not really.

If you actually think it's feasible for console makers to try and make VR the standard method of interaction with games, or force it on to every gamer, then you don't know much about the industry or good business.

Cost alone makes that idea a complete non-starter. The only way to make Virtual Reality headsets a standard in console gaming would be to increase the RRP of said consoles by hundreds of dollars. Neither company will be willing to do that. In one of your previous posts you even proved this point yourself, by pointing out the removal of Kinect as a necessity from the Xbox One. The primary reason for doing that wasn't to do with giving gamers choice, it was so they could cut the selling price of the console and increase sales and market share.

VR is totally different from Kinect because it legitimately improves the current gaming experience and doesn't have to change it in a wholesale manner, that makes it a very attractive purchase to many gamers, but there's absolutely no way it's going to be forced on every player, for a myriad of reasons.

If they think they can get away with it, they'll do it

Microsoft only got rid of Connect coming boxed with the console once the PS4 steamed into the lead and did it as a way to try and stop the bleeding

If they think upping the console price with the VR helmets will net them more them more money even with less people buying consoles, they will do it. They will happily sell less units at a higher price. You watch, they will try and make it an essential thing. We'll have to see whether it works or whether gamers stand firm
