I agree that the board are good at getting a decent transfer fee out of other clubs.

My issue with selling Stones is that in this instance, what they imagine to be a good fee won't be truly reflective of his actual worth to the club.

But you're not really basing this off anything though.

I think the club know how good he is more than anyone and they know how much Everton fans will fume if he's sold.

Tbh am glad from Barnsley's perspective they have the clause, they didn't get much from the original fee for training him up. However it certainly complicates the situation for us.

....it's a difficult one, there is risk involved in every deal so £3m for an unknown full back was probably reasonable. They all can't be diamonds and many are duds but the sell on clause is there just in case one is. I'm a big fan of this lad, shame if he goes but if he does we have to tease as much as we can out of the deal.

Options one to four, in decreasing order of happiness:

1) Captain us to glory for years.

2) Get to see him captain England while still in an Everton shirt. Then he can swan off and win the CL with Barca or Bayern or someone.

3) Stay this season, have a boss Euros next summer and watch City, United and Chelsea fall over themselves in a bidding war that reaches ludicrous proportions.

4) Go to Chelsea this summer.

Deluded these values, sorry lids.

massively overpricing him. go back 1 year and for most he wouldn't have even been first choice for us, the Kid looks a player alright but he's still learning his trade and has achieved nothing of note so far apart from England caps and we all know how crap they are. to compare him with Maldini Beckenbaur and the likes is just laughable really at this point. Anything north of 30 mill will see him gone. It would be nice to keep him of course but Money talks and I'm sure the kid will want to leave us for a chance at winning something soon enough even if it's not this summer.

£40m - £45m would be acceptable but not an option! Would be gutted if he goes for £26m. I think he could be as good as Rio and he went for £30m well over a decade ago and is 4 years younger than Ferdinand when he was sold.

AS has been mentioned elsewhere there is such a dearth of talent at CB these days that this massively ramps up his price.

£26m is a ridiculous offer and should be rejected out of hand.

I'm basing it on the fact that a fee approaching £50 million would not leave us in a stronger position than we are now when we need at least two quality centre backs on top of strengthening other areas of the squad.

Also, John Stones would no longer play for us.

Wayne Rooney.

Firstly, Im 99% certain that isn't true. Secondly it isn't terribly relevant.

Sergio Ramos is being valued at what, £41 million and he's won pretty much all there is to win and is a top, experienced defender. Set against that you'd say Stones should be nowhere near, but English players always go for silly money, as evidenced by Sterling going for £49 million. In a crazy way you could almost see Stones being the same price as Ramos, which is nuts. I would certainly sell him for that.

Not really. The current champions see him as their long-term successor to arguably the best premier league defender from the last decade and are willing to make him at least their second most expensive purchase ever. And that's after 44 premier league games. There's no blue-tinted glasses about this lad.

......not an unreasonable list. I suppose there is another (unlikely) scenario;

5) stay, iturns out to be useless. Can't get a game ahead of Galloway and we sell to a Championship club for £1m.

If you're going to be that unrealistic then we may as well throw in :

6) He discovers his real passion in life is indoor volleyball, and leaves us to pursue a poorly funded Olympic dream.

Reminds me when @hktoffee came out with this

Don't want Dann. And you can get Alderweireld for £7-8m last season and he has just been sold for £11.5m who is twice the player. It is alleged that CP want £15m for Dann who can't get any recognition from his country when some people said England caps are given out like graffiti.

I've used the word "recently" for a reason. Rooney was what? 11 years ago?

We'll see anyway. The short of it is that you are (somewhat rightfully) fearful and you're letting that fear cloud facts.
Wow.
11 years and NOTHING has changed.
