Some people saying give him a full pre season, hes going to get injured anyway.

Those saying to take a gamble, its not a gamble when we know hes going to be injured.

Either try and offload on a free now or let him go next season when his contract expires.

amazing when we extend his contract. He plays like 3 games a season for us and we will still pay him a full wage for that?! better yet, he is the type of player that you say 'it hasn't worked out, good luck in the future'. Except we are everton and we continue to pay these players to sit in our treatment room in the hope that maybe one day are cheap as hell midfielder can put a run of games together.

Not forgetting a fit gibson is behind 3 other players in midfield not including barkley

I think we all agree that Gibson is a great player (when fit). However, (as many have correctly stated above) he is so rarely fit.

During the 12/13 season Whenever he was fit he was straight back into the starting 11 and was useful. At this time he only had an aging Neville to dislodge. The problem for him now is that on the rare ocasion he is fit he then has to get past Barry McCarthy and Besic (maybe Barkley as well if he is to drop deeper as has been hinted). This is much more difficult for him. Therefore he now provides less use for Everton.

It may be that Gibson ends up being one of those players who get over injuries and who can once again play 40 games a season (seem to always remember Scott Parker being injured and this eventually changing in his later years). The problem is he could just as easilly end up being a K. Dyer type who takes up wages needlessly.

Am I right in thinking he still has one year left on his contract? If this is true it would literally be madness to offer him a new one. His fitness record over the last 2 seasons has been nowhere near good enough. If he wants a new contract he should be hungry to earn one. I'm sure we'll all see an interview with him soon on the OS saying "my injury problems are behind me now. I just want to focus on playing" (I'm also just as sure we'll all see him limp out of the final pre-season game not to be seen again until November.

If I were Martinez the best I could say to him would be "get a full pre-season under your belt and force your way into my plans. Then we'll talk in January".

Issues like this make me crazy with Everton FC. Loyalty is good but there has to be a limit. McCarthy and Mirallas possibly have one foot out of the door because their not being offered the money they could get elsewhere. Yet we may offer to waste more money on Gibson. FFS!

In short: Everton are not a club who have the resources to take people along for the ride. Every player needs to be able to contribute all the time.

Crazy people thinking the likes of Besic or Barkley are ahead of Gibson for a midfield role. When fit Gibson should be first choice. Best midfield player in the team. Only one who has the positional sense and passing game to control a match, the rest are just running round chasing the ball half the time. A class above all of the others in that deep lying role.

How many games do you reckon Gibbo would need to get up to speed ? And before he does he will be injured again,he is a bit part player, more bit than part, waiting for Gibbo to be a first team player is like waiting for Good Friday to fall on a Thursday, just get shut ffs.

A fit Gibson is 10 times the player Besic currently is.

Sadly, he's a liability.

I say sadly because he's a very good player, it's just he shouldn't be part of any of our plans because his injury record is disruptive.

Needs to be shown the door, hopefully any contract talk is appearance based.
