You need to realise that the footballing world is FULL of viable options.
Just cos you havent signed them on FM and FIFA it doesnt mean that there arent a over 100 viable options out there.
Players like Mirallas, Besic, Pienaar, Arteta, back in the day, players that are off peoples radar.

You can either fluke a Lukaku or get a Traore or Atsu.

Last football game I played mate was world cup 90 on the Sega Mega drive! I know what your saying but it's not always simple in signing some unknown and them being boss, thankfully Moyes was the king at it but Martinez is unproven in that regard.
Sadly playmakers like top strikers are worth their weight in gold so it's less often the real quality ones go under the radar, it's all opinions end of the day but I think Martinez should have made this position his first signing and gone for it right from the start like arsenal have addressed their main priority being a top class GK.

McCarthy wasn't a panic buy. It was just late on in the window but that was more to do with fleecing Utd for as much money as they could.
Lukaku was a panic buy that fell into our lap when we went to enquire about Demba Ba. I think it was Demba Ba.
We got lucky then and since then we have panic bought or loaned Traore and Atsu.
