ECHO response - Poll if you would buy the ECHO or not

I've read that article, and it highlights Spurs Merchandise figures of 11 million below Evertons.

Now, they are using our total commercial income and comparing it to Spurs merchandise sales.

Really.

Certainly there's some smoke and mirrors in there

I don't know a lot about the Kitbag deal, but this seems to me a balanced and informative piece, which takes account of fans views, and one which will probably infuriate the powers that be at Everton FC. Can any of you 88% explain to me why it's not worth my while visiting the Echo website to read an article like this ?

I do think anyone who reads that wouldn't come away from it thinking it was a good deal.

So that's not good for the club or Elstone.

And yes everything @bizzaro has posted is spot on.

it was informative, it reached out. this is what we wanted wasnt it. you can talk about is it (kitbag deal) a good thing or not ofcourse, but for many average joes like me it was informative.

this doesnt mean Echo has changed, though. it'll be longer process for sure...and who can guarantee it will even happend like.

Kitbag is a ‘risk-free’ deal. It is not the commercial disaster some supporters say, but it is also far from perfect and appears unambitious.

Well it's a start from the Echo at any least...

You mean trying to compare our total commercial income to just Spurs merchandise income and saying we are better off. It's unbelievably poor reporting

It's incredibly mis informative. Not only does it keep talking about our total commercial activity when the article is meant to be about kitbag it then goes on to compare this figure to Spurs merchandising alone.

Putting aside the comparisons with other clubs performances, the simple fact that we only have 2 shops and nothing else - on its own - shows this is a bad deal irrespective of any other positives.

Just for clarity - Everton's commercial income in the last accounts are as follows:

Sponsorship, advertising and merchandising £8.436 million
Catering £0.934 million
Other commercial activities £3.337 million

Total: £12.707 million

Tottenham Hotspurs' commercial income

Sponsorship & corporate hospitality £37.3 million
Merchandising revenues £11.00 million

Total Commercial revenues £56.228 million

The problem is that we are comparing apples and pears. Spurs includes corporate hospitality in their commercial revenues, Everton do not. Spurs merchandising revenues are revenues before the cost of supplying the goods and distribution costs. Everton's merchandising figure is the net receipt from Kitbag.

Therefore a comparison of Everton's performance v Spurs performance cannot be made on the basis that the Echo has reported. This may be a lack of understanding, or (as others would have you believe) a deliberate attempt to mislead.

ps - I forgot to mention Spurs carry £4.29 million worth of merchandising stock, something which Everton through their arrangement with Kitbag do not have to fund or account for.
