I honestly don't get the argument "as a backup"

Firstly, Jags is getting older and picks up injuries

Secondly, from admittedly the little I've seen of him, Dann looks decent enough to push for a place regardless and I like the idea of our first backup being good enough to come in if someone's form drops.

Thirdly, 6 to 8 million for a proven Premiership centre half isn't expensive these days, and we need someone who is ready to play on a regular basis

I've no idea if Dann will actually end up here, but, if he does, for something like 8 million, I'd be pretty happy with that.

I don't get the argument "proven premier league defender". He is as proven as Alcaraz and Liam Rigwell in my opinion. Premier league is not a whole world and you can get better players for less money from elsewhere.

My problem with dann is a combinatin of his quality, age and price. If he'd cost us 3mln than no problem but for 8 we should get better quality. And the fact that some clubs are overpaying constantly and willing to pay 20 million for average players doesn't mean that we should overpay for 8mln priced lad.

Why would you expect to get a top 10 Premier League side's best player who is in his prime for £3m? Have you even watched him enough to come up with this valuation?

£3m typically gets you a less than average player, a youngster or an unproven/risky player. Dann is none of these, he's a solid player who's been plying his trade in the Premier League for years. £8m is a fair valuation.

I would just look elswhere, simple. 8mln is big money for us. I just think that if scouts were doing they work we could get better defender for that value. That is my opinion based on the whole of his career and what i've seen of him (maybe not enough, i don't know) not based only on fact that he was chosen they player of the season which means nothing really

If you add up in points how much Alcaraz cost us last year I think you will get a good position or two in the League, and of course that horror in the Europa. I would estimate at least £3m.
If Dann is any good then I would be happy to pay between £6m-£8m, as has been quoted, to have 3 CBs that can be relied on. Good teams always have strong defenders and a top GK....now for Howard...

maybe that spanish GK might be decent (from deportivio) but i'd even rather play Robles than spending serious money on the keepers being bandied currently like Heaton

I agree. I would wait until next Summer for a top keeper expenditure. Too many issues need addressing in the outfield this Summer.

exactly. all about prioritizing. arguably we could use help in some capacity at every spot besides LB (cover for coleman, new gk, back up striker, etc) but a 3rd CB and a playmaker are more imediate concerns I think. we were gash last year because we made too many defensive errors and couldn't do anything offensively if the opposition sat back

CB, AM and striker are what we need right now as a priority.

Half of Dann's transfer fee (whatever it will be) is because of his British passport - there is nothing in world football that inflates prices like that.

Although I think we have been linked nowhere credible in regards to Dann I think this signing would be a no-brainer.

- 28
- Proven premier league defender.
- Can play it out of defence.
- Palace player of the year 2014-15.
- Moyes wanted him in the past.
