Liverpool Echo.co.uk - Everton FC - News - Everton FC move for Arsenal's Philippe Senderos

Weakest line ever:

"If a move for Senderos does go through, it does not mean that Joleon Lescott will be hurried through the Goodison Park exit door."

"Chairman Bill Kenwright told Echo Sport today: “We have been negotiating with Arsenal for the transfer of Philippe. Nothing has been concluded yet but talks are on going.”

Bill, we know it's done mate. It's all over Europe.

City must be pissing themselves at the club having to acknowledge what's been brought into the opublic domain. Chances of getting £25M out of this lot now? Zero. Worst strategists in the world.

"damned if you do damned if you don't"

Your innate ability to make anything fit the anti-Kenwright/Elstone agenda will never cease to amaze me. You really should be a politician mate.

If the club are playing hardball with City over pushing Lescott's price up then keeping quiet about a deal to replace him should have been part of the plan. It's simple really: you get an agreement in place with Senderos, his club and his agent with the proviso that it's off if the deal emerges prior to City buying Lescott. If Arsenal want shut and the player has his eye on staying in the Premiership that should be no problem. If Everton are masters of one thing it's confidentiality clauses. If there's one time they needed to exercise that it was during this saga. City can sit tight now. Ball firmly back in our court.

Majority of media sources are claiming that this deal is in addition to Lescott staying rather then leaving. Met with Moyes yesterday to discuss the bids but stopped short at asking for a transfer.

You have to laugh at ther audacious media claims, particularly the common one saying Lescott is going to write to Kenwright explaining his motive for asking for a transfer.

How would any journalist know that?

Fact is lads, we need a centre back regardless. Jags is injured for a significant period and Yobo has the African Nations. Senderos arriving doesn't alter the Lescott situation in the slightest.

OR

City realise we would be desperate to push a deal through to use the cash to bring in a replacement asap. Now we already have a 'replacement' - a player that common sense dictates we needed anyway, with Jagielka injured and Yobo away for 5/6 games.

As I said, damned if you do, damned if you dont. If we sold Lescott and Senderos went to Hamburg (who bid £5m), you would no doubt slate the club for not having brought in another defender.

Agreed the media are getting great mileage out of the "saga", the Everton public line and indeed Lescotts as far as we know has been firm and hes staying (at least for another season IMO). Reading between the lines and listening to other players comments, it seems he is content here. Plus i think Moyes would be loath to sell him to City. If he stays i wonder will people give the club credit for holding a firm line.

Would love a full house against Malaga if he plays and for all Evertoinans to let him know how much we want him to stay, maybe i am naieve but i beleive that still matters to players.

I'd be happy with this. £6m really isn't a lot of money for an international centre back, and we are pretty desperate for cover there. Good bit of business IF it gets completed...

The thing is Danny, the jig is up on this now. Only the dim would conclude that Senderos is not already *at Everton*. City know it, and they know that we dont have the cash to have the luxury of perming any one of four CB each week, regardless of Jagielka's injury. They know we'll have to shed a player. I think those reports over the weekend about Senderos having switched to Everton, which caught fire yesterday, was the worst news Everton could have wanted to hear. You can almost hear the air rushing out of the £25M balloon. Imo, he'll be gone by this time next week for £20-£22M.

Lol. I was just watching FSN in Aus and I was reading the scroller thing and it read, "Philippe Senderos completes move from Arsenal to Everton, according to reports."

It got my hopes up and everyhing and then "according to results" just came scrolling along, lol

Or on the opposite side if we pocketed 27 mill for Lescott (and thats far from clear) would Senderos transfer fee creep a million or two upwards.

Like Danny says some fans will criticise the club dealings regardless of any decision and as we speak Lescott is still an Everton player.

Will the same fans give the club credit, if Lescott stays and we have a pool of four centre backs - not so sure.

Just accept it as a differing viewpoint...or is it ok if I state in every response that 'some people will always gullibly accept the club's line'?

I really dont understand the need for that comment.

Words out of my mouth.

Pretty sure Dave was one of many saying not long ago any player we get in after Lescott is sold will have their price put up a bit. Now, its "oh but if we bring in players before we sell Lescott, City will pay less"

Again. Damned if you do, damned if you dont - theres always an angle thats used to criticise the club.

Differing viewpoint or cynical agenda based viewpoint? I prefer the latter - simply because of the continuity of spinning absolutely anything to fit an almost anti like Everton stance.

Sometimes Dave, just sometimes - the club aren't a joke. We look like we have signed a player and you quickly brand the club things like "Worst strategists in the world". Its incredibly tedious.

 Dont think so mate. But dont let that spoil your point. (y)

Simple point being made by me: the way the Senderos deal has been handled looks like a sloppy mistake at this stage of the game and it may cost us dear in edging City up toward the £25M mark that I, personally, have always thought would be a reasonable price with a player makeweight deal thrown in. If I were City's negotiaters now I'd be enjoying Everton's discomfort.

I maybe right, and I maybe wrong on that.

If we keep Lescott and improve the squad, I will praise the board, 100%.
