Local news in Houston is saying they asked the restaurant to not host the event for the gangs ahead of time and already had SWAT ready at the scene before the fight broke out.

I hadn't heard that. Yeah...pretty poor if true. Would probably want to confirm that though.

Edit: Reports say 12 officers were outside and fired at armed bikers when it broke out. Probably saved innocent bystander lives according to the report:

Massive shoutout, 18 injured and 9 dead. Looks like 2 gangs were in a row but there was "support" for each side and as many as 5 gangs were present.

The article I posted said that the restaurant was ok with them all being there and that when the authorities wanted to discuss security with them, they weren't all the interested (I'm paraphrasing here.)

Tragic but I can't help but wonder if it could have been avoided at all.

sounds like the meeting wasn't initially for a shoot out, but for turf discussions which went bad, police maybe thought they could have them up on criminal conspiricee charges, and ended up being present at the OK corrall
