Lorik Cana

Lets be honest lads, half of you probably haven't even seen him play. YouTube doesn't count.

Got to laugh at the 'international midfielder' remarks - as if it adds real substance to the argument that we should have signed him - come off it, Albania?

The French league is probably one of the worst in Europe to judge a defensive midfielder. Also interesting that Marseille signed M'bia in looking to actively offload Cana. Equally interesting is that, despite his obvious availability - no big team made an offer.

If we spent a few quid on a defensive midfielder, I suspect Arteta would be stuck wide right - which wouldn't be good.

We already have Neville, Rodwell and Arteta who are perfectly capable in the role to be honest. Even Cahill is more combative than creative. Our defensive record speaks for itself, it's not a problem. We have a good base to build on.

I'd much rather we concentrate on more attacking minded players, players with natural ability and creativity. Outside of Arteta, Pienaar and Osman (on his good days) we don't have any others.

Voices of reason.

A bit absent on here lately.

PS: I like Sunderland so lay off the Macken you monsters.

Then why were we interested in Mbia? There's plenty of reasons why Marseille would want to off load their captain...and one of them is probably not because he's shiite.

Yes, we need attacking options. But I just found the price tag of £5mill a bit of a steal. Dont forget last season Arsenal (who have been eyeing him for a while when he was at St Germain), us, the [Poor language removed], and Tottenham were all linked with him last season, but if I'm not mistaken his price tag was £12million.

IMO its easiler to find an attacking player (even on loan) than it is a a good defensive one, especially in the midfield.

£5mill was just a good sounding deal IMO.

It'll be interesting to see if he really is as good as people make out, I honestly haven't seen enough to comment. When I did I actually remember him playing centre back.

Marseille have bought Stephane M'Bia, Edouard Cisse and Lucho González so Deschamps obviously thinks it's a position that needs stregthening.

As I said, we need more players who do tippy tappy step overs. An Osman upgrade so to speak.

We do have a LOT of players that can play centrally, we really need more wide options, we are screwed there.

We got Osman, Pienaar, Arteta at a push and possibly this Wallace lid. We need somebody who knows what a touchline looks like.

I dont think Moyes likes those showboaters to be fair. I want them but the way we move in the transfer window its highly doubtful. We're stalling over Elm...and we'll probably get Joe Ledley when Elm gets snapped up by someone else.

I dont think we've got THAT great a cover centrally. Neville and Rodwell are our DM's. I just was thinking a 25 year old Lorik Cana could've plugged a gap between a 32 year old Neville and a 18 year old Rodwell. Unless Fellaini will come good hahaha.

I'd rather sign a player who can play in both positions - wide and central.

Someone who can keeps and uses the ball like Mikel does.

I wouldnt mind another myself....

Chances of that happening a slight though.

I'm just bitter today. Im in that mood. Ideally I'd want a Naughton/Obinna right side - pure pace. That's never going to happen.

I'm telling you...we're all gearing up for Joe Ledley.

At a push we can play with Anichebe there as well. But I agree that we need to strengthen the sides on the midfield.

I wouldn't call them showboaters, just technically gifted players. Players who are good on the ball and capable of making things happen. If Moyes doesn't like that then we are going to stand still, sadly.

I'd say Neville, Arteta and Rodwell are enough to be honest. Arteta's hardly attacking, he sits in there and just plays the role differently, with a bit of class.

Obviously you always want more options but we are working with a limited budget, for a season atleast I think those players could fill the gap and we could spend and strengthen in other areas.

Fellaini played pretty deep against Rochdale. Hes clearly being moulded into that player.

Will be interesting tonight. I can see him again playing in the hole, the defensive 1 rather than the offensive. Lets see how does it against a decent side.

Fellaini played on the left side of a diamond formation, certainly deeper than he usually plays. Again though running and chasing things doesn't doesn't suit his game, he's not good on the back foot.

Moyesy was also pushing Jo out to the left at times and Fellaini pushed behind Saha. Thought that was interesting. If Osman is injured and we don't sign a wide player before the Arsenal game it's wouldn't surprise me if Jo was pushed outwide and Pienaar swapped sides.

I can't see Cana being anything other than a good investment. He's a Champions League class player, admittedly a lower level one, but he's certainly at that standard. 5mil is very good business for me.

When's the game on tonight by the way? Doesn't seem to give a time on the OS.

2:30 am I think.
