Possible transfers that fell through....

Yes, I know these were linked, but would these type of players really made a difference to us?

Leroy Fer looked good and would of brought another option to the midfield not world class level but keep us buying young talent for decent money. Dion Dublin would of been a good addition at the time and Savage was one of those players that everyone hated but you would love if he was playing for you, the little snide but without the tit head attitude of a Joey Barton.

Yeah, I remember that well.

Didn't Naughton say he really wanted to come to us, but Redknapp gazumped us by telling Sheff Utd he'd sign Walker as well, thus giving the club more much-needed money??

Yeah, Spurs paid £9m for the pair and loaned Walker back to sheffield Utd for 6 months, Naughton apparently wanted to come to us because he thought he had a good chance of getting into the first team

....not sure you would call it a 'transfer' but Andy Gray had an interview with Peter Johnson and it wasn't for a job at Park Hampers. Sky TV intervened, who knows how that might have turned out.

Think that horse became a problem, with Fer.

Chris Sutton while he was at Norwich, I remember the back page of the paper 'Everton tell Norwich to name their price for Sutton'. He duly went to Blackburn and formed the SAS.
If we were really in for Shearer too we could have had the title winning SAS strikeforce as our own...instead of the tosh we had in that period. If only

We weren't in for Shearer though.

I sometimes wonder 'what might have been?' when we got a decent player, but it just didn't work out for whatever reason.

I can think of Colin Todd in the late 70s. A previously good player, and an England international defender, but probably came to us at the wrong time of his career.

Then, alternatively, there's Nigel Martyn, who was still great for us but came too late for it to last.

Spot on mate, would have been a boss signing for us. Gutted when we never got him, especially because he actually came to watch us at Goodison the night before it went tits up. Quality slotter.

Remember Manuel Fernandes, when he was in the crowd at Goodison to complete a permanent signing after his loan spell with us? Then within a few hours he'd signed for Valencia or whoever it was, instead!!!

Who was that Brazilian fella Kendall was about to sign around the time of the 82 World Cup? I remember there was a photo of the two of them in the paper at bellfield

We could always still get Fer when QPR get relegated - along with Austin!
