To players at the end of their careers sorry I disagree - What value have we had out of them this season? Hibbert, and co ?
There wages represent a fraction of what it would cost to get in an experienced replacement who'd be resigned to cover a position and the wages we'd have to pay them to do it. They also are experienced, trusted figures who'll be spending a lot of their time with the younger players passing on their experience. Something you wouldn't get with simply hiring a random mercenary to bench warm.

should be first choice LB next season. Time for Bobby to test out the Baines in midfield idea. It could work...it we were not already overloaded with CMs

Surprised they haven't be used as scapegoats more tbh. I think though with Europe, Martinez has favoured rotation and it gives some of the younger lads a shot to establish themselves as regular scapegoats later in their careers

With all the excessive hope and adoration that people have placed on young Besic already, he may well be one of our greatest ever scapegoats in a couple of years time.

He certainly has a lot of potential in the scapegoat game. He's achieved cult hero status quickly despite not doing anything and specialises in kicking people. I think he's got a real chance of being a massive disappointment

I thought Ross really stepped up this season. A real buzz about him now, and there's a lot of people saying he could be a really huge scapegoat for England's next failure aswell. I think the fact that we have so many scapegoats that can disappoint everyone at international level speaks volumes about our progress under Martinez.

Why move arguably the best player in his position in the league to play a kid who may or may not be good enough for the league.

It could be their affluent wages in their contracts that Garbutt may be looking at deferring him from signing if his offer is maybe on the low side?
