Everton crest NOT allowed on GrandOldTeam

I'm all for the club protecting it's image rights etc. However, I've no idea how they think that an Evertonian on a forum using the club crest as an avatar is going to

1. Cost them any revenue
2. Somehow damage the 'brand'

If someone from the clubs marketing or PR dept would care to shed some light on their logic then I'd love to hear it.

I imagine this is something that has to apply broadly and evenly; a restriction against a group that might use your image negatively also applies to a neutral, yet still unrelated, group. For the club to authorize official use of the image by a forum would endorse the forum, including all of the sheep-shagging and absolutely terrible excuses for match previews that might occur in said forum.

The main issue is that we'd end up with the official crest on our very competitively priced mugs which would severely dent sales of the "official" mugs.

@SerenityNigh The club wouldn't have to endorse the use, just turn a blind eye to forum avatars and the like. Different if Danny was using the crest on his site homepage and selling mugs with it on.

It's a crazy situation. The club are almost certainly, legally, in the wrong but they have scarier lawyers than we do (not tricky I know) so we just have to do as we are told.

We're just fans. Who cares about us?
