“I’ve got to accept it,” Gerrard said in an interview with Sky Sports. “I’ve let my team-mates, my manager and more importantly the supporters down. I think I’ve tried to avoid [Herrera’s] tackle and I’ve reacted when I’ve seen his studs showing, but I’ve been in the game long enough to know [what happens] when you do that. We had 45 minutes to play and a great opportunity to get back into the game. I’ve reacted to the initial tackle, but I don’t want to say too much more. I wanted to apologise to the supporters. I take full responsibility for the result.”
The egotistical bully attempting damage limitation in a vanity interview. Eleven "I"s in a four line quote. He obviously thinks Herrera nevertheless deserved the stamp as hes about the only one apart from Pele' that he didn't apologise to...then again the press say the Brazilian legend had pi*sed off by half time so missed it anyway. I like the way Carragher tries to justify Gerrard's recklessness implicating Rodgers recent decisions to have him on the bench as a causative reason for his childish psycho retribution once he got on the pitch.
I like this recent online comment under Oliver Kay's piece on Gerrard in today's Times, from a Chelsea supporter.
'Blue Is The Colour'
'Special things like three red cards in his last season, poor tackling, at least 2 mistakes that led directly to goals against LFC and numerous poor passes that meant goes weren't scored for LFC (same with a few of the tackles, no possession no goal). Then there's that infamous incident against us last season. Funny thing about that is the miscontrol which people seem to forget led directly to him then scrabbling to get the ball and slipping last season to let slip LFC's title ambitions. He's not just losing his balance but his touch too. Along with the red cards which were his fault he's also had the hugely unsatisfactory position of being on the bench in Madrid in probably the last epic European game of his career which wasn't.
Sad, sad way to go, even for the scouser. In many ways if i was him i'd find the least palatable thing, and it would be something i'd definitely not do, is him going to play in America and therefore completely shatter his whole one team man legacy.
