The really positive thing is that Kiev are actually a good team. I didn't feel our humping of Young Boys was particularly significant.

Agreed, when we gave them time on the ball they looked boss and they have some skilful players whose names I'm not going to try and pronounce, or type for that matter. But, once we started to make an effort, we knocked them out of their comfort zone.

Interesting words from Roberto..

Howls were greeting every sideways pass and the now weekly appeals for direct action were growing in ferocity. end of the tether has been hovering dangerously into view for a while, but Martinez was left in no doubt the Gwladys Street had located it as Everton’s players momentarily stood damned on their own turf.

They could either wilt or respond. It is to the players’ credit they took the latter option to take a first leg lead to Kiev. They may even welcome the verbal volley they were experiencing from the stands, as they’ve been looking for a catalyst to raise the tempo for eight months.

“It has to be a turning point for us because the crowd is intelligent and know we are honest and try to play our best football,” said Martinez.

“You saw the anxiety for 25 minutes but when we get the tempo and expression we are a good team. It’s a moment where we need each other and we need to take that into the league.

Yep. And why did we not bother making a effort for the first half hour is the question.

I cant stand two things:

* knee jerkers
* those that don't now think of Martinez as a god.

God of awful results/performances/forward play?
God of quite amazing interviews/stuborness/bad selections?

I have multiple carved idols to support the above - all yours for 20 pence.

Like Bascombe's thoughts on the influence of the crowd. He's probably thinking what he and fellow kopites would do in a similar situation like pushing walls onto their players, or throwing cups of crap at them.

I wish I knew mate. It's not rocket science.

This is happening again and again. Slow out of the blocks, give the opposition a goal start and then finally wake up and start playing catch-up.

Not sure how long we can keep getting away with it tbh. The only reason we do sometimes is because we have enough quality players to dig us out of the mess we have created.
