Relegation Fight 2014/2015

Martinez has got to learn from his mistakes in 2014/15. There's no doubt that there have been many, including a poor pre-season.. bringing Howard back, not replacing Deulofeu right when his loan ended, bringing in Eto'o and disrupting the team & also keeping with Distin and Howard, even though their ages are getting way too old. That's if he gets the chance to learn from them!!

Every manager has good and bad spells, unfortunately for Everton, we go from Europe to Relegation form.. it's happened before and probably will happen again one day. When you're in these battles, you just have to stand up tall and try to get out of the results rot.

I really hope all the speculation about player unrest is untrue and it's just literally down to playing poorly. Only time will tell.

Unfortunately if Martinez doesn't play the players in their right positions... ie Barkley in CAM, Lennon on RW, Robles in goal and Lukaku running onto balls - then I can see us relegated.

Biggest mistake he made for me was keeping faith with a CB pairing that are clearly not good enough / not up to the task of providing the base for the way he wants the team to play.

Distin and Jagielka to start us off this season was madness. He got wise later and kicked the appalling Distin into touch, but he could easily have done it to both. In the summer that needs sorting for good. He needs to go out and get a dominant CB who can distribute well and lead a defence to become Stones' CD partner.

Jagielka has to be a stand in player and, it goes without saying, have the captaincy taken off him. Better still would be to get rid of him and get two CBs in.

We can debate where else needs sorting out, but that area is essential.

No dave, the biggest mistake he made was expecting that teams would allow us to play how we played last year.

It's pretty obvious you've only seen us play on MOTD and/or sky, maybe you've only read that stats column in the paper; because thinking that the centre back partnership is the root of all evil is astonishing.

The fact that the football on offer is utter tosh and once a team get men behind the ball we are screwed.

But it's ok, you keep believing that our centre backs are preventing us from playing football.

Cuckoo cuckoo

...I will, because it's a massive part of it. We only have someone like Barry in there now because the distribution is ropey out of CD. Fix that and it has a ripple effect further forward. We can afford in games against the non-elite to leave out one of the deeper lying CMs and get some more punch in there - Barkley for me - which, in turn, allows the flanks to get into the game (presently closed down by the opposition because they know they wont get caned through the middle of the park).

It's all about fractions and finding them.

A mistake ridden season will only be saved if the team below us don't get results. That's the only reason we shouldn't get relegated. QPR losing again is another result we will be grateful for.

For some unknown reasons Martinez will not admit to what the vast majority of evertonians see as our problems. Add to that some well written articles from blues and non blues recently all which agree on the obvious problems.

It's annoying to say the least when 1 man goes against the obvious. I wouldn't have a problem if we were mid table. My problem lies in the fact that being in the position we are in does not bode well if we fall further due to the type of football we are playing. Slow predictable with a total lack of intensity and belief.

First comes the team lineup. Expected. Players out of position. 1 winger. Lob sided. 1 or 2 players starting that shouldnt be near the team on current form.We start all matches with a good 5 mins. Then our shape goes not suprising with players out of position. No drive. no shots on goal. the first half passes by without major incident. Martinez is content as we are not losing. Second half comes and we stroll out again. We look second best to even the supposedly weaker teams. A mistake and we go down a goal. We stand off the ball not chasing it down. Probably is our greatest fault esp in the relegation fight. No leadership on the pitch. Jags is too soft. Mc carthy should be wearing that band. He plays when fit and would do the captains duty by leadership and a bit of fight.

Maybe we look a bit better for last 10 mins. We lose and the players walk off looking a bit puzzled.

Martinez comes smiling into the press conference. Issuing the same old pre rehearsed rubbish. Does he think we are really fin stupid that we actually believe in what he is spouting. This is why people call him a fraud. .."GROUNDHOG DAY" staring everton and Martinez.

Newcastle is make or break. Hopefully he can make the obvious changes to the team and tactics. I wish him the best but his stubbornness will be his "DOWNFALL"

You ignore the fact that it didn't appear to hamper them the previous season, when they were also the 3rd best defence in the league like.....

Scapegoating nothing more

End of the day, managers are there to manage.

I'd have zero respect for Martinez if he had them going route one just to pacify a load of local hacks, feeding off forums like this, in order to save his job.

I'd rather he continue to stand by his passing game, get the necessary points we need (impossible almost not to now), get to the summer and then get the players out who have misfired badly and the players in who he sees as good enough to recapture the first season form.

The form of Barry was key to that. He was on top form and doing a very handy covering/distributing job. Player of the season last campaign for me. His form goes and the hubris of sticking with Cheech and Chong to start this season off with became all too apparent.

I think it was a season too far for Distin, but the lack of defensive drilling is obvious and as Ossie confirmed they never even work on set piece defending, and it shows. We've defended poorly as a team, a lack of closing down, losing the 2nd balls, a lack of organisation, getting caught short of numbers as we've left ourselves over exposed, has all combined to leave us defensively poor this season. To lay the blame at the feet of Jags is ridiculous

At last, a proper opportunity to have a conversation.

IMO the entire setup of the opposition has changed, and this where he his having trouble adapting. And the evidence is in the games.

You look at the teams we've moved the ball freely like last year, a couple of times throughout the entire season with young boys being the last. The first time I witnessed it was Arsenal (legs killed us) then Aston villa at home.

All these terms were open against, wanted to play their game and no stifle us, and we picked them off with ease. The teams who press us high then fall back into a defensive unit have caused us major concern all season. Yet we've approached every game the same, and that's where the frustration as boiled over, literally same thing game in game out.

Now surely any sane person would have tried to change something, even the personnel; you said yourself.

This is why he's put his own job on the line and up for scrutiny, his inability to adapt and change. All you need to do is look across the park to see what a change can do. Even Utd are struggling with his squad, not as bad us, because VGL is determined to shoe horn people into his system, only when he goes long are the snatching late points.

He's not an inexperienced PL, he may be young, but he has a lot of experience and does not need a learning curve. He's making the same mistakes as he made at Wigan

Dave it's statements like this which do you no good.

1) nobody has asked for route 1, people have have asked for a higher intensity, higher pressing game, like against City. You keep confusing this with long ball

2) we aren't playing a passing game, a passing game as an end product, we mind the ball until the opposition score. It's not pretty and not good, and it certainly isn't a passing game. Again you've confused a passing game with aimless possession
