LOL @ the idea that Danny would pay anybody for anything.
To be fair, it is possible that Dave's being paid in mugs, because very few of you buggers have bought one you tight gits !

There are still a few left if anyone's interested

The other mods told me they get a good wedge from GOT, don't wanna cause any aggro or anything mate but...

Also I've already got a mug, it takes pride of place.

New vogue?

It's been happening for years. Decades in fact.

It's all very admirable sticking with your manager but it could also be utterly stupid.
You're right. What I'm getting at is the way fans jump on managers after a sticky spell despite some good memories last season. It's happening at West Ham despite a really solid season, it happened across the city before Christmas and even City fans are getting twitchy.

Fans are often spoilt and should be careful what they wish for.

No truer words spoken.

You're not wrong but I certainly didn't wish for this season.

Not expected at all. Teams peak, I feel that is what happened last season. The manager's job is to build a new one based on youth and savvy purchases. It's going to hurt at times but you've got to hang your hat on someone to do it.

I'm not really a Martinez in or out person mate so can understand where you're coming from totally.

But equally the other side too.

I just want boss Everton back to be honest, we all do.

Sadly if that means he has to go then so be it. If he sorts it soon even better.

It's been bugging me for a while why 1 poster has been so aggressive in shooting down everyone who appears to be anti Martinez, relentlessly going round this forum attacking anybody expressing doubts or concerns about Martinez.

How could anyone be so pro Martinez in the current situation, it just didn't make sense. Plenty of people still have belief and back the manager, thats fine. But they don't do so with a delusional belief in "plotters".

And that post (and a few others i can't be bothered to find) reveal it : It's all about the type of football he deems that Moyes played, and the type of football he deems Martinez plays.

It's been discussed to death on here the comparisons between the style of the 2 managers. I think it's fair to say Moyes played some good stuff, and some bad stuff, annoyingly reverting back to the latter when he had the players to play the former.

But regardless of what you thought of his style, he done pretty well with it all things considered. But his time was up here and we needed someone new in. Step forward Martinez.

And bring on the belief that he plays a type of football deemed suitable for Everton Football Club, that we are the school of science and Martinez plays that way whereas Moyes didn't.

All very well and good, last season it was perfectly acceptable to sing the praises of Martinez's style of football. It was working.

This season it isn't. Because we're not playing well, and more imprtantly we're not picking up the points that our squad should be.

Professional football is about winning things, it's about doing whatever it takes to win points and win games. It's not about "playing the right way". You might prefer to do both but ultimately you need to do the former, even if it means not doing the latter.

And most people can see that. Most people would want good entertaining football and successful football. But they would prioritise looking ugly and winning games over looking good and losing.

As would any sensible fan. Apart from one who is obsessed with the style of football above everything else. Obsessed with thinking that Martinez plays the right type of football for Everton, and that Moyes didn't.

What the Hell is happening to Everton?
Everton v West Brom. Sat 24th Aug. @ 15.00.

One who backed Martinez because of that style of play and refuses to back down because that would be like admitting his style isn't appearing to be the right type for Everton. Because we suck right now. One who knows things aren't working but cannot admit to themselves (and the rest of the forum) that it isn't right for Everton, that Martinez's style of play isn't School of Science, it's school of slow arse crap.

Image over results. Style over results. Reputation over results. Belief that Martinez is right and everyone else is wrong.

Sure, there is criticism about Martinez in other areas (like transfers). But he could have us playing his way in the Championship and his "philosophee" would still be defended as more fitting for Everton that Moyes "agricultural football".

Excellent post Seamus.

One man's obsession with being right on the internet has reduced the Everton Forum to a puerile slanging match.

It's pathetic, especially given the current predicament we find ourselves in.

Some of the stuff posted in here today was beyond the pale, glad I missed it.

This is not a sticky spell. This is a whole season of dross that could lead to us being relegated.

Apologies, there were a few who have never taken to the shiny Spaniard, but 2/3rds of pollsters don't want him. That would not have been the case last summer

Do you mean prior to another HANDS-UP performance at STOKE? Maybe not, maybe that game was many peoples final straw variation eh...

Yeah, we'll see how much that was a final straw if and when we win the next game or two. The pendulum will move decisively back if we do.

That's footy fans for you.
