I'm new to these forums (fora?) so be gentle if I missed something, but I keep reading about all these 'poor' sides below us in the table. Has anyone mentioned yet that WE are a poor side? A very poor side in fact. I've been supporting Everton since 1971 (typically, I missed out on the 1970 title, but I was around for the mid 80s, so it pains me to say that) .........

We are poor at the min yes, 100%

But go and take a look at the bottom 5 and there recent results compared to ours (Look who they have played compared to us as well), Also look and there remaining games

Well don't keep mentioning he's our manger with the best league points? Or are points only relevant when the season is over, & we shouldn't care about them now?

Show me a post I have made saying that

I admire your unwavering optimism Dave, I can't muster the mental strength to believe we are 100% safe until mathematically it's impossible to go down. Just been a horrendous season.

And yet.

Get ourselves to the comfort zone and have a wee charge in Europe and this season could yet turn out to be golden.

And if you think I am being a Simple Simon think back to how we were feeling during the autumn and winter of 83/84.

;)

What does that matter though?

The season does not end for another 12 games, The points we finish on are all that matters

It matters because it proves that Martinez is currently doing worse than any other Everton manager has done previously. That's worse than Walker in 94, Kendall in 98 and any season under Walter Smith. Personally, I think performing worse that Kendall's 1998 team puts you in grave danger of being relegated, which I'd class as quite an important matter.

It also matters because even if we stay up, Martinez woeful managerial performance will have cost us millions in prize money, and untold damage to our attractiveness as a football club when it comes to competing for a new players signature.

In our last seven games we have beat an inform Palace side away from home, drew with City and Liverpool, Failed to break down WBA (ffs Kev you tit) and thanks too Howard dropped 2 points at home to LCFC

Beaten by a last min goal away to the best side in the country and then to Arsenal

Our problem is drawing games not losing, Two of the last seven we could and should have won, Small margins and all that

Since the turn of the year when we got a point against City we have 100% seen an improvement from the side, Unlucky to go out of the F.A cup when down to 10 men and some decent results against inform teams like Palace and the RS

You say we have no desire or passion yet we battled back against West Ham with 10 men, Drew with City after going behind, Beat Palace away and got back into the LCFC game after conceding two awful goals

I bet you any team below us would love to have our form since Jan

Look at the finer details though. Howard shouldn't have been on the pitch for any of these games, as he hasn't warranted an instant recall to the first team. Therefore, if our tactical genius manager had stuck with Robles we could very well have 4 more points (Chelsea and Leicester) than we do now, at least. On 32 points I think there would be much less of a genuine panic. The dropped points in those games are on the manager, imo

The 2 home matches against west brom and Leicester showed we don't believe we can win.
Yes are performances picked up a bit against city and Chelsea but against arsenal we went back to playing slowly and looking lost going forward.
Even our form since jan is just 1 win and that's not good enough since we are now in march.
Against west ham we did show passion and desire but its too sporadic.
We are Everton with great players we should be going out there ripping into teams and believing we are going to win.
We are playing like we are scared expecting to make mistakes and with results not going our way its a bad combination

Ok then, Martinez is sacked in the summer after seeing Everton finishing 14th

New manager comes in and starts poorly, Going into March we are 12th and 9 points from the drop, Do we get rid of the new manager after only 8 months in the job?

Who are the "great players" we have mate?

I 100% agree and said so at the time

Dropping Robles was the same thing he did to Oviedo the year before

It still does not deflect from the fact our form since the 4 back to back defeats has improved and is better than the teams below us

Last season Norwich were the team to plummet in the second half of the season. As they went into freefall, there'd be an item every day on SSN or in the Press about Houghton's precarious position. I find it absolutely amazing that the same critical speculation has still not been focussed on Martinez. I don't recall, but surely Houghton's record towards the end of his term can't have been much, if any, worse than RMs.

Last night in the build up to the BT game at Villa, the panel were discussing the relegation situation and listed the betting odds for relegation -- we weren't even in the chart!

This goes back to what I said to you on the other thread.

People do not associate Everton with relegation.

Even non Everton people.

That is a testimony to the reputation of our great club and we should be proud of that.

In my lifetime every club other than Everton and Arsensl have been relegated.

United, the RS, Spurs.

And Chelsea and Citeh were yo yo teams in the not too dim and distant past.
