One thing that has surprised me is the response of the fan base during this fairly tough period in our clubs long and relatively successful history.
It seems to me that people believe that, purely on the basis that we're Everton means that we cannot and will not go down. People just assume that we have a divine right to top flight English football because Graeme Sharp scored a worldie against Liverpool in 1984.
Let's get one thing straight, no club, regardless of history, stature or players are too good to go down. I absolutely despise it when people completely disregard the possibility of us going down with the likes of Leicester and Queens Park Rangers because we're Everton.
Our form is dire, the way we have been playing is dire, the reaction from the fans is dire, the in-stadium support from the fans is dire and the response from the manager has been dire.
Should we sack Martinez? No. That would be an idiocy, you don't go from being Bobby Brown Shoes to Bobby Clown Shoes overnight. There's managerial talent there. People seem to forget that he's only 41 years old - pretty much the same age Moyes was when we were being thumped by the likes of Charlton, Fulham and Shrewsbury.
Kenwright isn't the type to just pull the trigger like that when things are getting tough. I'm not his biggest fan by any means, but look at Newcastle for crying out loud - could you imagine if we had Ashley in charge? Sure the money would be there, but no stability at all. The most successful sides of the 21st century are stable, stability brings success one way or another.
It's going to be hard, but another 9 points from our remaining 10 games should see us through. I don't believe for a second that we should completely rehaul our squad in the summer either, we need one-or-two reinforcements and someone with a bit of forward-thinking drive to adjoin the midfield and the attack and maybe adequate cover for both Coleman and the ageing Jagielka. We have a superb goalkeeper in Joel Robles and one of the worlds brightest talents in Romelu Lukaku.
I can't guarantee that we'll beat the likes of Villa, Hull, Stoke and QPR - but I can guarantee one thing...
It's going to be one hell of a ride.
