Not free no, What was it? Around 2m

Not being funny but you can not hang a manager out to dry if a 2m signing doesn't turn out to be a world beater
No I can't. If you read my post in the Aiden McGeady thread you will see I am his biggest fan. Our Scottish twinkled toed Messi ;)

Kone aside his poor signings have been his loans/frees

When he's spent money on players he's bought well
Yeah, and even with the likes of McGeady at £1.5M you get exactly what you pay for.

It's another lazy assertion to say martinez has been ropey on transfers.

The inevitability of Cleverley coming in is making me nervous about his transfer prowess. It won't be the best start to the summer.

I think it's inevitable too, I think the biggest disappointment with Martinez is that his transfer activity (Deofeleu aside) has lacked any imagination at all.

Half season.

But yeah totally agree mate.
We'd have to be bottom of the League for that to happen. Can't see that. He gets a full Season surely. Deserves some time as he has shown he can manage.
I want to see him Manage a 1st eleven without the 3 or 4 duds that are getting picked this season.
Big pre season transfer window for us/him.

By that same token I don't think you can claim Kone a failure of any kind yet seeing as he's only played a handful of games because he suffered a terrible but unavoidable long term injury very early on and is only now getting back to being involved regularly.

I'm far from Kone's biggest fan but that's just bad luck.

I agree mate, Just plenty on here would see him as a waste of funds

I must be the only one who thinks Cleverley would be a good signing especially on a free.

No he'll add depth, experience and competition to an area of the team we're short of.

For free it's far from a bad move.

For free I'd go so far as to say it's a pretty good move. Is he a world beater? Far from it. Is he a decent replacement for Osman, bought for no money? Yes.

So no question of a large signing on fee?

I'd normally agree, but the Villa fans viewpoint is that he is absolutely woeful, and they can't wait to get rid of him, they certainly won't be losing any sleep about losing him. Couple that with the fact that we are supposed to be a big club that is challenging for honours and you can see why the purchasing of Cleverley will not go down well.
