this summer will shape our club in a massive way, for the foreseeable future. if Martinez buys well, sets up a good preseason and we kick on in the league - a team like ours with the youngsters we have could be challenging the top 4 (again) and league in the not too distant future. if he signs utter dross and has a terrible pre season (not results wise) like this year we could be in trouble

The question is how damaging will this season be with regards keeping our more impressive players. Mirallas is virtually gone (though he can be replaced) but if we lose Stones then our defence will look leaky again.

We keep getting mentioned in regards to Rafael Silva. If we get him or someone like him and maybe one more (Konoplyka) we will have a good season. In the summer last year I have a feeling he was looking at bringing in Griezmann who obviously would have been amazing but unfortunately not getting him (due to him being too good) condemned us to a poor season. The same might be true for this guy Silva.

Fond memories. I was at that game and as the 5th or 6th went in my mate turned to me and said "are we watching Barca?". What made it even better was giving Keane dogs abuse the whole game.

For all the talk of this team or even the one last year. That one was better.

Howard, Neville, Yobo (Jagielka 81), Lescott, Nuno Valente, Arteta, Carsley, Osman, Pienaar, Cahill (Anichebe 74), Yakubu (Johnson 74).

We even had Baines too although he hadn't quite broke into the team at that stage.

Viktor Fischer could be a good signing. Massice talent though he's been injured most of the season. Might make him more affordable as he was being touted for Man Utd not long back but his injury may of reduced the competition for his services.

We aren't going to loose any of our younger players as they are signed to long term contracts. Mirallas will almost certainly go but I'm hoping we will replace him with one maybe even two wingers that are better.

We had one game in the "likes of Russia"......and from memory we played United when we came back from that and only a combination of a missed penno, Howard taking the heeby jeebies out on the wing and a world class performance from De Gea denied us a win that day.

The other two away trips in Europe?

Germany is a reasonable journey.......and Lille is probably closer to Liverpool than Southampton is.

So whatever else has been ailing us this season, jetlag ain't one of them.

Its still more games and more traveling, End of

I just don't understand this thinking. Is Martinez having a good season? Not particularly but not all of the blame is on him. Everton is in a transition phase and it is going to take more than 4 windows to get everything set up how he likes. Yes he got players playing in his style quickly because they are better than the usual talent he has had but that does not mean that they are suited for his style. As far as I am concerned these are the legit issues to have with Martinez (none of them warrant a sacking).

1. Piss poor substitutions. Don't know what has changed between the two seasons but he is usually making changes too late in the matches and with very little effect.

2. Lack of a plan B. He has been playing a slow build up style that results in either us struggling to get it out of the back (beginning of the season) or getting set up but just passing the ball around the box without posing a threat to the goal (all season). In order to play this style you need to have players with vision and can make quick short passes but he still has Barkley, Naismith and Lukaku as the tip of attack and none of them are at their best in tight spaces.

3. Reliance on old guard. He went into the season believing Barry, Distin and Osman would be very important to our teams top 12. All of them have had down years and at points were just nothing other than terrible. He still seems to insist on putting in out of form players in the starting 11 or playing people out of position just to keep them in the lineup. This is my biggest gripe with RM and something I hope he realizes going into next year.

However, I am still positive about the future and I believe Martinez is the person to mold the Everton squad as needed. I believe we will have about 30 million pounds in the summer to spend (I know people will claim bullshit but I think with all the new TV deals money will be available). Last year was an anomaly as we spent the bulk of our budget on one player but people of Lukaku's pedigree do not become available often. First Let's look at his purchases:

Lukaku- People will gripe about the price tag but as far as I can see Lukaku is actually improving as a player and with plenty of room to grow. This will look like a good buy.
McCarthy- Fantastic signing.
Besic- A steal at 4 million.

Barry - I don't think anyone expected Barry's form to take a nose dive off of a cliff. While a 3 year deal for a 32 yo is always a risk, this is looking like a poor buy.
Alcaraz- Not a great player but he knows the system and for a free it is tough to complain.
Kone- A little tough to grade due to the health but I wasn't a fan of this purchase.
Robles- A back up keeper who looks like he can come in and be in the starting 11 and not cost us matches. Solid deal for 1 million.
McGeady - 1 million for a squad player, who is very frustrating but has had some good moments and is an actual winger. Tough to compalin for the price.
Henen- Too early to tell but seems to be playing well in the U21 squad.
Galloway- See Henen.

If you look at the above list the times where Martinez has spent big he has done very well. While some players haven't been great you can't expect much for the price we have paid.

This summer if we don't buy another winger (possibly 2), CB (unless we are very confident on Browning stepping in) and an attacking mid who knows what the hell a through ball is I will be concerned.

TL;DR: Everyone who wants to sack the manager needs to show some patience. Yes our form has not been great but we still need one more big window to see where we truly stand and get a better idea of RM's final vision.
