I think our performances are getting better not worse. Problem is we're not getting results.

Yesterday was just one of those, really unlucky and to be honest who expected us to get anything anyway? A draw at home - although it was an awful game - I'd have taken a point before and before that we won away at Palace.

Next few games are massive. Other than Arsenal away, we should be winning everyone of them.

Patience is needed and I'm sure we'll get there.

I think Martinez deserves another season, he can be judged properly on how we do next season, last year was glorious, 72 points will probably get 3rd this year. This season has seen a serious of error's made by Martinez looking in from the outside. Aside from all the injuries and bad refereeing decisions we have been bang average.

Most worrying for me is how the senior player's seem to have an influence on his team selection, nobody put a gun to Bobby's head and said he had to give Howard,Hibbert, Distin and Osman new contract's.

Also:

Playing Ross Barkley on the wing??
Playing Naismith on the wing??
Playing Aiden McGeady??
Taking Besic off in nearly every game??
Luke Garbutt situation??
Mirallas Penalty situation??
Dropping Robles for Howard??
Not dropping Howard for Robles??
Phil Jagielka as captain??
Defensive record??
Where are all the "PHENOMENAL" youth team player's??
Buying poorly??
Not selling players when perhaps it would have been for the best in the long term??

People have a right to question Martinez because in my opinion he has made a lot of mistakes, it has nothing to do with second season syndrome. This summer will be huge for him.

Playing Ross Barkley on the wing?? - Experiment that clearly didn't work, but only lasted 3/4 games.

Playing Naismith on the wing?? -
Again like Barkley not happened as often as people make out but considering our shortage of wingers due to injury it was necessary.

Playing Aiden McGeady?? -
Seeing as all our other wingers have been injured it would be madness not to use the only one constantly fit and availble to balance the team out.

Taking Besic off in nearly every game?? - His first season here getting used to the league and is often on a yellow card by the time the subs came around and looking like he may collect another at any given moment.

Luke Garbutt situation?? -
Been offered a contract if the lad wants to stay he's welcome but he's not going to dispose the best left back in the league.

Mirallas Penalty situation?? -
He was handing out instructions to Jags and Stones on the half way line and was powerless to do anything by the time it had happened.

Dropping Robles for Howard?? -
Clearly doesn't rate him as as good as Howard.

Not dropping Howard for Robles?? -
see above

Phil Jagielka as captain?? - Did well last season for him and had no reason or realistic alternatives to him to change it.

Defensive record?? -
Poor this season but getting better, last season was the 3rd best in the league.

Where are all the "PHENOMENAL" youth team player's?? -
Clearly not ready yet for the step and never mind the fact it's not a good idea to introduce youth in a team that's under performing.

Buying poorly?? -
Apart from Robles and McGeady he's seemingly bought well with all players being a success (Alcaraz obvious wasn't a buy)

Not selling players when perhaps it would have been for the best in the long term?? -
Not sure who you're suggesting he should have sold after last season?

Apart from that Distin, Osman and Howard all played their part in a very successful season and were good value for new contracts, Hibbert was obviously seen as cheap cover for Coleman while funds where distrubted elsewhere on the squad.

Playing those players on the wing because we have no other options unless McGeady and Kev are both fit and play every game, Atsu has been awful and Pienaar is injured

Who else would be your captain if not Jags? Also how do you know they would be better as captain? Could it not disrupt the side more changing captains?

Defensive record, Last season we were solid in defence, This season we have seen a massive decline in performance from Distin and Barry coupled with Stones being out for a long period, We have conceded 2 goals in the last 5 games having played the top 2 and an in form Liverpool side, Last season and our recent form would say he does know how to set up a defence

Buying Poorly, Besic/McCarthy/Robles/Lukaku good McGeady/Kone/Alcaraz poor, When he's spent actual money on a player they have been good signings (Kone aside), His free's and loans have been average but what else would you expect

Who would you have sold out of interest, Remembering a replacement would have had to be bought

Okay, how long would you give martinez to sort things out before we realise that maybe it isnt working out ?

No dig at you by the way just a honest question, i would love to sit here in a few years time watching the CL draw having qualified via the top 3 and also being reigning fa cup champions.

I don't take it as a dig as Ive only stated fact. I dunno what time Id give him to be honest and it wouldn't even cross my mind to even start thinking about it until this season pans out. And by the way, Id love you to be watching us in the Champions League draw and the League/FA cup under our belts. Its a great feeling...albeit Ive only seen it separately.

5 points above the relegation zone in February with the squad that we have is a disgrace. He should be sacked in my opinion, and I would think more people will be of same opinion if we fail to beat Leicester.

I'm nearly sure the Barkley out wide thing lasted a lot longer than 3/4 games....which was the main reason people were fuming about it because he persisted with it.

Spurs and Hull away are the only two I can recall, although I didn't see the Boxing Day game against Stoke so can't comment on that match. Spurs being the first time he tried it, and it looked like it could have been either Barkley or Eto'o asked to play in the wing and neither of them fancied it.

As regards captain, i was more or less just putting it out there, have seen a lot of critics about Jags this year. I wouldn't regard him as being the most vocal ie John Terry type, looking ahead i think Stones would be an ideal candidate.

As regards wingers, giving the importance placed in a Martinez system, aside from Mirallas i don't think any of the others are good enough if we want to take the next step. Pienaar has been injured but i don't think he will ever recover to be the player he was. McGeady is awful, always has in my opinion and alway's will be.

I think all good manager's from the past can look ahead instead of looking back, Osman, Hibbert, Barry and Distin have all been rewarded for last season, now i know we wouldn't have got transfer fee's for any of these (maybe 1.5m for Ossie), but it would have enabled us to save circa 175k in wages per week. That would have gotten us 2 quality player's wages wise for this season. Ferguson had a great knack of selling player's at the right time, Ince, Kanchelskis, Keane, Beckham and Van Nistlerooy spring to mind, Souness left the shower over the road at his peak. Martinez has choices to make now regarding Coleman and Mirallas, both would fetch hefty transfer fee's, let's say £30 combined. Both are fan's favourite's but giving their ages 27 the time may be right to move them on. I could live with say Kieran Trippier from Burnley and Memphis Depuy and we probably wouldn't need to spend the £30m to achieve it, both are younger and it would work out for the better in the long term in my opinion. Seamus is my favourite player but will he achieve the height's of last season?? Doubtful

It started way before that. I was at the Swansea game on 1st November and Barkley was wide left that day. And I remember expecting him to be as he had played there for the previous few games.

On what basis would any neutral observer have this same belief though? None. Many Evertonians are still talking on the basis of hope. The neutral observer would simply look at the facts -- and fear for us.
