Liverpool Target Olympique de Marseille Captain Lorik Cana – Report
The Albania international midfielder could be available for a fee of around €11.1 million...

According to a report in the British tabloid The Daily Mirror, Premier League club Liverpool are lining-up an end of season move for Olympique de Marseille's Lorik Cana.

Apparently, Reds manager Rafael Benitez is a huge fan of les Phoceens' captain, whose playing style has been compared to that of Xabi Alonso.

It is said that the Spanish tactician has made enquiries about the Albania international midfielder's availability, and the 25-year-old has been valued at approximately €11.1 million (£10m).

The news calls into question Alonso's future at Anfield, with recent reports claiming that Italian giants Juventus are keen to snap him during the close season.

However, it is claimed that Benitez would like to sign Cana whether or not Alonso is still a member of his squad next season.

It is also thought that the interest in Cana will not have any bearing on a potential move for Aston Villa midfielder Gareth Barry, who is being tipped to finally join Liverpool this summer.

Would love him at Everton and £10m is buttons for a player of his quality.

They will only buy him if Xabi Alonso would leave and Cana is nowhere close to his quality.
He would be great for us though, ideal partner for Arteta to play in the centre of midfield.

You cant really compare him and Alonso, different types of player. I would say we need Cana before we need Alonso. On the other hand they have Mascherno and Lucas(snigger), so they dont really need another DM.

I am not comparing them and I know they are different players. But I just don't see Liverpool buying him without selling other midfielder, especially if they will re-open Garreth Barry saga.

Problem is mate, we need real money instead of buttons. We have probably more monopoly money than the real stuff.

Everton are keeping an eye on the situation of Marseille defender Loik Cana who seems to be on his way out of the Velodrome since the arrival of new boss Didier Deschamps.

However, German club Hamburg seem to be leading the chase for the Albania international. Article continues below

According to reports in France they are prepared to pay 8 million euros for him, which is a price david Moyes might baulk at.

Stuttgart are also in the market for him.
