I'd like to fit all 3 in, build the team around Besic, Barkley and McCarthy.

This is Beiscs first season in the Prem, and his first real run on games in the side, he gets better every game, and for me, has more to his game than McCarthy technically, better feet, better range of passing.

McCarthy is on the verge of becoming a top box to box midfielder for me. He's got it in his locker. It's tough on Besic, but against teams we should be beating it should be McCarthy/Barkley starting. If we're going to be under the cosh, Barry/McCarthy or Besic/McCarthy with Barkley further up.

Essentially, McCarthy always starts.

Howard
Coleman Stones Barry Baines
McCarthy Besic Barkley

Kone Naismith Miralles
Wouldnt mind seeing a proper 433.

Baines needs to up his game, poor in both defence and attack again today. Doesn't look arsed

Soton away is causing me deep consideration on my accy. They must be due a bounce back after 4 consecutive defeats. Kone needs to start this game.

Has anyone else noticed that Lukaku cannot win a ball in the air?

Very much needed 3 points there. Not exactly convincing but winning breeds confidence, confidence breeds better performances. Barkley and Besic were very good, I was a little concerned that they might lack a bit of discipline but we restricted them well and I don't think Howard had a serious save to make (their goal aside).

I can't get over the standard of refereeing this season. The ref tonight was nothing short of apauling. To try and give us an advantage but to not bring it back after the free kick after the Lino called for offside (was it even offside?) is shocking. It's simple but they're getting it wrong.

Hopefully Mirallas is ok, the last thing we need now is more injuries.

Of course he is ffs, He's 30 and is seeing a drop in form, One of the most consistent Everton players I've ever seen

I don't think I can remember Lukaku winning a header outside of the box, but that goes for anyone in front of our back 4 bar Naismith.

TXT my mate the same thing

He's a fat slob

I agree

But you have just said drop Mcarthy off the back of three decent games for Besic

Take your own advice soft lad
I think Besic will be a better player than McCarthy in time, and if Besic continues as he is, how can he be dropped for McCarthy.

I'd like to see Barkley, Besic and McCarthy together, they are too good to drop any of them, we build it around them.

I found all that very frustrating. I agree it takes wins and momentum to then gain confidence to get our top footy on show again but I thought being 3 up was a great opening to really get at QPR and express ourselves more than we have at any point this season. Instead we stuttered and stalled allowing a poor team possession and time.

Ross and Besic were fantastic in the middle though, in fact if it had been Mcarthy and Barry there today I think we'd have really struggled. Naismith makes such a huge difference as well, his energy and running just causes all sorts of worries for defenders and midfielders. Aside from those mentioned plus the glimpses of sheer class from Mirallas the team looks so laboured, worryingly like they aren't enjoying playing.

I'm a proper fussy divvy though so maybe I should lighten up...

Rom had his quietest game in an Everton shirt but it's embarrassing how quick the daggers are out.

People just don't understand the striker he is. He's not a Marcus Bent or a Andy Johnson...

We created nothing today until we were 2-0. One moment of brilliance (as well as deflection...) from Barkley. A big dose of fortune in Mirallas FK with a hefty deflection.

And still not a bad return so far for Lukaku - same amount of goals scored as last season. More than Rooney, Hazard and a few more big names.

Support the lad FFS and enjoy him while he's here - he won't be for long.
