It was a great result, some really good individual displays but we really need to either shut up shop after 3 or batter them into submission. We slowed down, passes astray, invited them to have a proper go. We were never in any real danger though...........

Barkley was ace centre mid. He needs to play there more against teams we should be beating. Understand the booing when we needlessly pass it back to the keeper, it's something we need to cut out. Howard and Distin in particular don't need to see nearly as much of the ball as they are doing.

Once we scored and upto the third goal I though we played much better football and with more intent than I have seen for a while

We dropped off like the Wolfsburg game
Suppose that could be a fair assessment. As I said I got home late and got a stream up on 35 minutes. It was after the 3rd goal that I was really disappointed. Should have really gone for it and got our goal difference up to speed against what is basically a championship team.

Barkley was good, pulled the strings well, and Naismith gave us the bit of craft needed to give us the win without getting out of first gear.

Lukaku was absolutely dreadful, and don't start the 'no service' argument as that was not the problem. It was the chronic lack of movement and diabolical first touch, whilst looking sluggish and slow all round. He stank the place out tonight and he has nobody to blame for that performance than himself.

Well done blue boys!!!

Really good win that. 3-1 win when we needed it, Barkley, Mirallas and Naismith on the scoresheet.

Considering both Barry and McCarthy were out, Besic seemed to do the business based on the result.

Back in the top half and pushed the RS into the bottom half.

Doesn't sound like we have played well, but winning when you're not playing great means you're on the right track. It's football, a game after all.

Come on you Mighty blue shirted heroes!!

all 3 could easily go down as OG's ha. i think naismith's was definitely an onouha OG. mirallas will get his because it was on target which is stupid because imo if it takes such a massive deviation like that it is an OG.

barkley's was probably close enough on target to let it pass, at the end of the day, it's nearly christmas, season of good will and all that, nobody wants and OG against their name, so just give us all 3 like (y)

Not to be overly critical after the win but the problem I see with this new Martinez style is the amount of time our centre halves get on the ball. They're our least creative players and they're expected to start the whole move off at the back, that coupled with the fact there's very little movement in front of them leads to a predictive style of football.
100% agree. Our most vulnerable ball players (Distin, Jagielka and Howard) see more of the ball than anyone else...it's a bit bizarre. That's how RM likes to play, but it concerns me that he can't see he's trying to fit round pegs in square holes.

Baines is way off required standard too by the way.

Just shows how critical McCarthy and Stones are to our style of play.

Agreed with Baines. I'd be tempted to give Garbutt a go.

Looking forward to Stonesy returning.

why were our fans booing, no wonder the players confidence are low.

I was there, and it was because we were getting free kicks in good positions and passing them short backwards to retain possession, and for some reason our defenders kept running the ball out of defence and losing possession (Distin did it multiple times).

After the run of form we've been on I think the fans expected a bit of passion from the off, but it was a strange opening 20 minutes and only once we got the goal did we show any real ambition.

Not saying it was right to boo, and I didn't myself, but I can see why some where frustrated when we're playing really poor opposition and looking like we're trying to play perfect 32 pass moves to break them down. Sometimes just going direct and mixing it up is in order I reckon.

The performance of Mo Besic tonight must take precedence over any little niggles we have about the game. That was a Peter Reid/ Paul Bracewell typical everton cm performance, take a bow son.

can't think of anything he did wrong today. got penalised a couple of times for good tackles and didn't lose his head. the kid is a superstar, he will sadly get punished in this era of football for some great tackles, he would have been even better in the 80's.

How do we fit Barkley, Besic and McCarthy in a holding role with Naismith in number 10?

4-3-3? Naismith up top? I don't know.

McCarthy, Besic, Barkley
Naismith, Lukaku, Mirallas

4-4-2 diamond?

Howard
Coleman Stones Jagielka Baines
McCarthy
Besic ______ Barkley
Mirallas
Lukaku Naismith
