Try to keep him, or let him leave ?

I don't think he is quite ready to replace Baines this season. He hasn't developed the defensive awareness to be relied upon in the PL. I would however be more than happy to put him in in the LW slot, switch Mirallas over to RW and start playing with some genuine width. We did that with Coleman when he came into the team and Garbutt is much more technically able to play that role.

This 100% with us lacking real quality width it wouldnt do us much harm putting him in there a couple of times purely just to give him abit more game time and keep mcgeady away from the pitch even if it is just a temporary solution

I think at the very least he should be playing ahead of Oviedo at LB. I think he could comfortably play in the Premier League every week.

I had no idea his contract was expiring at the end of the season. We can't let him leave on a free FFS!

Saw something on Twitter I liked and with Barry low on form I think it could work....

Howard
Coleman Jagielka Stones Garbutt
McCarthy Baines
Oviedo Naismith/Barkley Mirallas
Lukaku

What is it that makes people think Baines can become the new Philip Lahm? I personally see him being awful in that role. Let's not forget, defensively he isn't the best left back in the league! It's only his attacking that puts hm ahead of the others. He doesn't close down enough, isn't that impressive in the tackle and isn't that tall thus not the best header. Lahm has always been a fantastic defender, albeit not the tallest. Lahm is also a natural leader, whereas Baines is not. Less of the Baines for defensive midfield madness!
