Tbf has anyone seen the wall for the sunderland free kick? Its hilarious. They are blocking the space to the left of the post.

...it's the keeper who lines them up.

I thought he was more at fault for the Gerrard goal, Larson is tremendous in that position. If I'm critical it's more about his 'spring' than his positioning. If you look at the likes of Shilton and Seaman, it was their spring that suffered as they got older and this was particularly evident at free kicks.

I don't like the way he leaves the near post free because he's relying totally on the wall blocking it then. And judging by the organisation of his wall the other day, that's not a good thing for us.

I think he would be better off standing more in the centre, or even nearer to the near post in those situations. Then if the freekick taker takes a great freekick and curls it in to the top corner at the far corner, you just have to accept it. But at the moment, he leaves the near side of the goal exposed and is unable to stop it.

Mignolet is not better than Howard. The only thing he has over Howard is age. Maybe in time he will become a better keeper but he isnt right now. Howard is a lot more consistent for me. I know he draws criticism from our fans, but a LOT of it is not justified.

Its all a matter of opinion but I cant see why you'd pick mignolet over Howard, except just for the sake of being different.

Let's get this straight, I want him to set up the wall somewhere in front of the actual goal... Did you see where his wall was positioned the other day? I think it was McGeady who was stood 5 yards further on than the post.

I'd like the wall to be stood somewhere reasonable that could make the freekick taker have to do something to get the ball over them, but as I said, if Howard stood closer to the near post, he'd have that covered and it would take a great freekick to beat both the wall and him if putting it in the top corner of the far post.

As it is, any half decent freekick that goes over or beyond our pathetic attempts of a wall goes in as Howard can't get over to it.

Most of the Liverpool fans I know would rather have Howard than Mignolet. Personally, I think they have the same strength, shot stopping, and the same weakness, flapping at crosses and causimg panic in the defence. Howards beard edges it for me.

That's very true.

He let in three that day but he was their MOM and on another day we might have had six or seven but for him.

Thats how free kicks work, you beat the wall within a yard of the post and you score 90% of the time.

The wall was set up wrong on sunday but your wrong on where Howard should stand, Its the keepers job to cover far side of the goal and then do his upmost to stop anything that ends up on target at the near post.

What do you think is harder getting it up & down over the wall and on target at te near post or having a free shot at the far post with no keeper or wall to beat?

He's standing on his line in the centre of the goal in line with the penalty spot (look at the vine), the wall should be covering that side of it does its job properly and he's ready for a shot coming in on his left hand side. Any further over to his left and then the side of the goal with the wall covering it is wide open.

Don't know what bit of film you've been watching! At the point of impact by Larrson he's a good yard to the left of centre, same as he was a good yard right of centre for Gerrard's derby goal.

positioning wise that is about right regardless of what he does after that
