I wish I had been around for the heyday of football. I reckon the 50's, 60's and 70's were some of the most exciting and colourful periods of football in history.

Today just seems a little more sterile at times. TV has taken over, ticket prices alienate the working man and most players are so detached from the 'real world' that it's like watching celebrities play a game these days...

We all look back to golden times with rose tinted glasses. As long as players care for the Royal Blue that's all we can ask for.All we want is a win

So true, I'm of an age when you didn't have to calculate if you could afford to go the match. Aways slightly different but i did prefer it in the 70s and 80s.

A lot of people say this then pay their Sky/BT subscription, enjoy a safe journey to and from the ground and safety within the ground with less racist/sexist abuse. I can't see many people genuinely choosing football from the 'past'. Which was just as bothered with money, just never had the same chance to capitalise on it.

True. All of your points are very insightful and I concur.

Just it seems that the age gone by was more 'honest' and 'organic' as an experience...
