Worst defence since last relegation.

1951/52 was the last time we went down, defensively we are on course to go down with the worst run in the club's history without a clean sheet and conceeding more than two goals a game on average. Its not just the top sides who are scoring freely against us either, Stoke,Hull,Newcastle and Blackburn to name just a few. Start worrying lads, this side has no Dave Watson/Barry Horne etc who will dig in if it gets ugly.

Six years on and no changes it would seem - is this any different? What factors do you all think came together in 2008/09 to stop the rot and give us 5th place and an FA Cup final? Can the same redemption be experienced this time around?

Can't put a finger on why we constantly had bad starts back then but we had a quality side that year. It wasn't always hoofball under moyes despite what a lot of people say

Don't make me slap you on the wrist (okay Mods?) lid.

The 'R' word has no place here anymore.

It just might if QPR win and United stuff us.... we are on the dotted line for the first time in four years. Not good.

Maybe going under it will jolt the the defence back to its senses.

Well after the United game we have Villa, who looked decent Saturday evening but couldnt score. If they had that same posession against us and not City they would of been leading after a hour. If we lose at Old Trafford this is the must win game we will be looking to to get the run started, but it wont be that easy and by then we are under seriouos pressure.
After that we have Burnley, Swansea, Sunderland, West Ham and its that group of games we will be looking at for 12 points.

Just a shame we dont play Newcastle until December

I think bumping this thread is perfectly reasonable, as I personally had forgotten how poorly we had started the 08/09 season.

I don't know why so many of you are moaning about negativity, really bumping this thread makes a positive point. We are starting poorly now, just as we started poorly back in 2008. Spoiler alert: we didn't get relegated and actually did quite well that season, nearly won a cup.

As an analogy, bringing up that season shows that our poor start doesn't mean our season is done, we can turn things around just as we have in the past. Was 08/09 the season where Neville made that tackle on Ronaldo that sort of sparked us to life? Maybe Jagielka's goal at the Anfield provided that spark, maybe Besic breaking one of United's new stars 7 hours from now will do it.

By the end of today we'll have played seven matches and have already played Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and Man United. We've also had some of our most influential players out. It'll come together.

Not wanting to join the doom mongers, but only one of those 4 teams you mention have actually looked any good.
