watching back the highlights it seemed all the wrong subs sadly. stones off? should have moved him to centre back and took one of the others off if he was desperate to move mccarthy back. mccarthy was then well out of position for the 3rd, giving the winger way too much space and then osman in centre midfield? why not have gibson or besic there, he dallies on the ball in the area of the pitch where he always seems to make a cock-up and that leads to the 3rd and game over.

Agree bad subbing again, what was he thinking of taking Atsu off and leaving Osman on to play wide! Osman is U/S wide. has Naismith and mirallas on to make up more strikers but who is making the chances?

Gerard was very frustrating and for the odd good thing he did a lot of it was wasteful hidden by the thought he was a wonder kid.

compared to Atsu who may be frustrating to some as well but i would say has a much better part to play in the team and will contribute a lot more than he did over the same period of time.

Before last night he hasn't looked ready to me. Last night though I think he got a lot of over the top unfair criticism from Sherwood and Ferdinand on ITV4 who are both clueless.

They said he was a liability which was a massive over exaggeration when you think of the age he is and he circumstances. He's had limited time on the pitch, is young and inexperienced, and the performance from the senior members of the squad was pathetic. Add to that it was against a tricky side in Russia. Whilst I won't jump on the Hibbert is poor bandwagon, Hibbert is limited going forward which also would have affected Atsu's effectiveness when attacking down that wing. If Coleman was there, they would have linked up, but when Hibbert and Stones play at Right back, the winger has no support in an attacking sense from the right back.

There were positives to take from his performance last night. He's got pace and can beat a man. He showed that on at least 4 or 5 occasions. He's by no means in with a chance of being a regular for us but he didn't do as badly as they were making out last night. He needs more time on the pitch and for the senior players around him to get a grip of themselves and start acting like they know how to play the game and help the kids out.

Stones is making Jagielka and Distin look very poor at the moment as well.
