I wavered over B- and C. I just felt we'd added a lot to first team attacking options and we lost no one of significance. I'm gambling on the defence sorting themselves out...a huge gamble I think.
Only Chelsea and City had a better defence last season.

If someone said in July that we would end up with these players in and no first team players out, we'd all have laughed.

The additions we've made have been great, and even though I'm as annoyed as anyone with our defensive problems, we know that our defence is capable to be one of the best in the league.

still reckon a B, creative mid and arguably another cb, striker, rb option short of what would have been a A+ like

If this was a one off spending window as well that mark will drop dramatically as theirs a lot of work needed done over the next couple of seasons to maintain the level and push on

The idea that our backline has aged overnight and has gone from the 3rd best in the league to a total liability is a nonsense.

That said I wonder if there's the need for a new defensive coach to be added to the backroom staff.

I think there are both positives and negatives in this window but I would say the positives outweigh the negatives by far.

my main issue is martinez saying we needed 6 more players then what we already had in may then dropped down to four, then he included hibbert signing a new contract as one of that four.

but we signed lukaku for 28 million(yes everton have spent 28 million on one player) in 2008 our entire starting 11 cost less the 24 million. eto, besic, Barry, atsu and some good young talent for the future.

okay our defence dosent look the best right now but chelsea was a freak game and dosent us drawing against Arsenal show how far we have come? I belive they will come good again. although I also belive there should be someone dropped for the game.

martinez will be blooming through some youth this season so we will get number through there as well. Take into account the players we have got on new contracts and we are looking good this window I belive.

B+

pleased overall but could have done with an extra couple of bodies to bolster the squad. Not condemning the back 5 after 3 games.

It's not 'the backline' it's the doubts around the CB unit...doubts that were raised even last season because they were woeful from set pieces...and now they're woeful in outfield play.

Keep denying we have to strengthen there, and keep watching our defence as a whole deteriorate.

4th highest net spend in the league and people still moan.
There's far more to a succesful transfer window than just recording a large number in the "net spend" column. United have a huge net spend this time around but their window has been pants.

For the record I think ours has been largely good, but we still lack cover for Coleman. No-one else in the squad can play RB like he does. Would also have liked to see Alcaraz sold and a better alternative (Nastasic or Richards) come in on loan with option to buy. Overall a B+ is my initial reaction, but an injury to Coleman or continued poor play at CB might change my opinion over the next 38 weeks. Equally a Europa League final victory will also change my opinion!

Considering the increase in TV money, I expected a spend the around £30m.

GK: Howard, Robles - 2

LB: Baines, Oviedo - 2
RB: Coleman, Hibbert - 2
CM: Jagielka, Distin, Stones, Alcaraz - 4

DM: Barry, McCarthy, Gibson, Besic - 4
RM: Mirallas, McGeady - 2
LM: Pienaar, Atsu - 2
AM: Barkley, Naismith, Osman - 3

F: Lukaku, Eto'o, Kone - 3

We have 24 senior players, with cover right across the park.

The squad has a whole looks strong. In the cold light of day, having calmed down from the Chelsea match, we should trust that Jagielka will be able to sort his form out and that Stones will continue to impress after last season.

The one area where we look vulnerable is if Coleman gets injured. Another centre half/right back could have given us that extra bit of assurance.

When Everton are the third highest net spenders over a few seasons, then there'll be something to shout about. Take out the money saved from player sales just last season alone and that tells you all you need to know how much of the annual £30M windfall that'll be spent in years to come.

Evertonians generally set too low a bar for these carpet baggers to jump over. They've failed to back this squad for 15 years, a big(ish) net spend in one summer doesn't mask that.
