Steven Naismith though.

I've seen Naismith bracketed with Mueller, Van Basten, Lineker and Romario in the past week.

Ha Ha Ha.

*Against Modern Football*

You wanted him shipped out, at the least loaned out.

Its hurting you he's our top scoring and banging them in. You're hurting but look on the bright side. Naismith has a great smile :D

Naismith's going nowhere and I think its brilliant.

It's all about confidence under moyes he was invariably shifted out to the wing, a position he's unaccustomed to and in the process coming back from a terrible injury. Now under Martinez either in the position he is playing in now, or as an impact sub last season against a tiring defence (god knows what he would do to our defence this season in the last 20 minutes if games) he has really stepped up to the plate and won the majority of the crowd over.
Allied to this the charity work and support he gives to the homeless in the city, he sounds a well grounded person who doesn't take for granted what he has. These last 2 seasons he has been a credit to the football club on and off the pitch.

Seeing as Naismith is getting compared to Barkley here are the facts for last season according to transfermarkt

Code:
                                  Goals Assists Minutes played

Barkley 7 3 2612

Naismith 9 6 1831

....he's been terrific. I did say when Barkley got injured that it would certainly not negatively impact our goalscoring and assist capability. To be fair, Barkley is more of true midfielder than Naismith but I'm delighted he's showing his true worth as he's a talented boy.

Charity work? I had no idea. What's he been doing?

Naismith's done brilliantly. But dave is right about Barkley being the only player that gives us that 'drive' from defence to attack. We'd have beat Arsenal, and i dare say not have been bummed so much yesterday, if Barks were fit.

When Barkley receives the ball on the turn, he spins and then he's away at pace, running at the defence. That's what he's good at. Naismith is more of a poacher - picks the ball up in little pockets of space and will lay-off a neat pass, but he isn't someone who's going to run 30 yards with the ball, nor should we expect him too. At what he does, he is the best in our squad. A clinical finisher, great positional sense and a brilliant work-rate.

But Barkley starts for me when he's fit. In the meantime though, he won't be fit for a while and Nessi is doing an excellent job. However, we have to change the way we play. Barry all day yesterday was trying to slot little passes into the position that Barks normally takes up on the half-way line with his back to goal. But doing that with no Barks is pointless. Naismith isn't that player, and Lukaku's touch means that isn't his strength either.

We just need to alter our play a bit while he's out, which in turn means we won't expose the defence as much by losing the ball on the half-way one with the full-backs pushed high up the pitch.

Life is cruel mate
I know it is. It's probably going to be similar to the situation for Martinez that arose last year when Oviedo came into the team when baines was injured. Oviedo week in week out gave stand out performances and many were discussing whether baines should get back in the team. However Barkley should come in for Naismith and his position, but your right life is cruel. Oviedo has the best left back in the league ahead of him, Naismith has one of the best talents in european football.

Ha Ha.

Bankrupt.

Well. You can't say if Naisy isn't the one who passes to the one who gets the assist or not.

You've got NO stats on that.

Nor the number of times he's created space for Lukaku to score by dragging defenders with him.

= Indirect Assists.

Naisy has you on the ropes for a TKO, its excellent to see. :coffee:

This.

He's just different class when all's said and done. In fact, it's unfair on Naismith to compare him with Barkley. Barkley, as mentioned, shifts the whole momentum of a game: the Derby last season at Goodison being a case in point. The pick up from centre circle to edge of box is terrifying and has opponents defences ALWAYS wary of what he'll do.

Well you can be selective if you want davek but I put up the figures totalled up from ALL competitions not just the Premier League.

Quite simply Naismith got more goals and twice as many assists as Barkley when playing in 8.5 games less.

Naisy and Barkley are two completely different players. I wouldn't be surprised to see Martinez rotate them based on our opposition and I, for one, would be delighted with that scenario. Being able to switch up on 60 minutes and giving opposition defences something different to think about has been an option we haven't had in our first three games and I can't wait for Ross to return even though I'm a paid up member of Club DaretoNaismith.
