I know RM is not a lover of corners, but does that fully explain how rarely we look dangerous from them? When you look at how many the RS CBs scored last season direct from corners (there was another one yesterday) it makes you wonder whether we're missing a trick here. Invariably we're still sending the crosses in from corners but there doesn't seem to be any conviction about us to get on the end of them.

Makes you wonder sometimes what they do at FF

Ever since Lescott left...

We have decent corner takers... Baines can usually put a good one in, Mirallas is usually decent... I think it's more about the lack of sensible movement and/or lack of training that goes into scoring from corners. Can't remember the last time we scored from somebody flicking a corner in and then the ball being powered into the goal. Was Lukaku v the RS our last direct headed goal from a corner?

We also perhaps need to be more aggressive in attacking the ball. Sure we'll give away more fouls, but fouls are given anyway even if you stand near the goalkeeper, so we've notning to lose. Skrtel always manhandles his man but scored nearly 10 goals last season - so it definitely works.

I'll never understand short corners that eventually get passed backwards and possession lost 15 seconds later. If you're not trying to slide the ball through for a runner you're ultimately going to cross it anyway, so just put the damn ball into the danger zone.

Totally agree. We haven't looked dangerous from corners since Hinchcliffe. I remember you could hear the groans of the opposition fans when we got a corner. We also have no-one who really attacks the ball though.
But ignoring corners and RM saying he doesn't pay mych attention to them is a weird one. Defo missing a trick here. Why not spend a few hours a week on set-pieces! We have Baines and Mirallas for direct free-kicks, indirect and corners are embarrassingly poor

To befair we havent looked dangerous from set pieces in years.
There should be no excuse for baines and kev hitting the first man with there corners though, id put ross on set pieces, hes put in some lovely set pieces over the pre season

how did I guess this would be yet another doom and gloom post from you? (OP)

Christ lad you're boring. Try some positivity in your life. Who knows maybe one day you may even crack a smile.

Jags and Distin don't seem to have much instinct when it comes to attacking corners, if they get their head on the ball, they don't really know where it's going, and if it lands on the ground near them, forget it. The ability to attack a corner is a skill, our CB's have many but this isn't one of them, and they should be looking to improve, because as you say it can prove vital

Thought Baines' are quite often poor to be honest. His free kicks are decent but don't really think his Corners are fantastic.

First man syndrome at GOodison.

Hinchcliffe was brilliant with corners. Just a touch and it was a goal.

i suppose we shouldn't be surprised that we don't score many from corners -- we don't win many headers at the other end either.

We just need to be more aggressive. We're gonna give away free kicks anyway from corners so at least get involved a la Skrtel and there is the off chance we'll score and the referee doesn't give a free kick.
