Funny that, because weren't we all creaming it last summer because of how well we'd played v Juventus and RM. Presumably Esk you were not lifted by those performances and the promise they showed.

I think I was on holiday, I know I didn't see the games.

I'm not criticising anyone else for thinking they're more important than I do, just expressing my opinion.

Last season all the lads were trying desperately to impress the new manager. We drew with juve and beat them on pens.

The lads know who's playing and who isn't. The main lads arent doing anything that means injury - you can see that every time Barry and McCarthy play. No one diving in and throwing themselves on the line like they 100% will be next Saturday at 3 o'clock

Ive never wondered anything about Wigan. RM didnt do too badly last season did he ? Or by your skewed logic are you saying we weren't ready then too if RM needs to examine his pre-season preparation ? Are you saying Baines is past it.....at 29 ? Have you taken your medication ?
baines has lost it last season he was poor oviedo was better in the time he played, martinez inherited the pre season last year it was already arranged, and he inherited a very fit squad , somewere along the line our players seemed to of lost total condition and fitness , ive never seen a bunch of players looking so unfit and unsharp

Hopefully next week Lukaku can emulate his performance against West Ham.
lukaku wont start next week, its not the results or even the performances its the total lack of fitness and sharpness, can you please tell me why lukaku and mirallas have not featured in 1 game, mirallas probably played less than 90 minutes football and lukaku slightly more in the world cup and to have so much time off is a joke, most players are back playing now yet martinez lets 2 of our main attacking players totally unready to even risk v leicester, i am baffled at how long they are suppose to need

Yes he was garbage wasn't he...especially when I watched him at West Ham when he fluked two goals. That must be why he went to the World Cup ahead of Ashley Cole too.

Todays performance specifically - he who shall not be named

was so bad i had to go have a lay down.

We have got to improve. Fortunately the only way is up.

I do think until he who shall not be named is dropped from the squad and certainly the team, we will be doing stupid things and making stupid errors.

Since he is not comfortable on the ball and all over the place defensively.

In all fairness, that 30 minute period, or however long it was when he scored those two free kicks, were the only things people could pick out when trying to argue that Baines was any good last season. Literally did nothing else remarkable all season.

By his own standards yes I would agree. However I was countering the original premature statement that "Baines has lost it".

Hibbert played a lot better I thought against Paterborn than against CV (where I thought he was a little off the pace). Personally, I like his old fashioned defending. Sure, there are not a lot of frills to his game, but he protects our right with his life and you can be sure that no opposition forward fancies running up against him. He is also very loyal and Everton through and through; in short, he's a club legend.

Note to self: Don't bother with match day threads again.
best bit of advise you'll ever give yourself !!.it's funny though, when I get back in from watching local sport,I go and find the part of the thread where we've equalised or gone on to win the game.usually the three pages before is nothing but FFS,were rubbish, etc. then the posts turn into we're world beaters as the game turns into our favour.we're a fickle lot us Evertonians !.

I think (hope) they will make an appearance v Chelsea. If not then, then I would be a little surprised not to see them appear v West Brom.
