Wasn't that a nickname from his Chelsea days? He was alright for us, but no fan-favourite and no diamond.

Really? Graham Stuart was a fan favourite and holds us in good regard too. Just saying!
Still remember him with the new shirt under that tree in the traing ground on the cover of the Everton mag

This isn't a 'Hibbo bash' but one moment summed up why he's not a Martinez attacking full back.

Half way through first half, recieves the ball, comms team:

"Here's Hibbert, plenty of space in front of him!"

He traps the ball, looks around, strokes it back to Jags who got closed down and hoofed it downfield.

Being a 'great servant' isn't what we need to progress.

Would take Besic off for McCarthy 2nd half, the lad is going to break the record for most fouls in a single game and maybe even break someone's leg.

Is Barkley even on the pitch? Sitting back in the traditional centre-midfielder role isn't for him at all, he's been completely ineffective playing there all pre-season. Either move him up behind the striker or just take him off as well.

We still look rusty, but definitely an improvement from the Porto and Celta Vigo games. It's the weak players we're fielding that are hindering us I feel, not so much fitness.

My theory is RM is willing to risk us possibly dropping points in the first 2-3 games so we can be more fit for the long season ahead.

Sorry but we look around 3 weeks off pace

he'd never do that. there's a reason we're building a big squad.

who's to say the rest of the prem don't look as rusty? it's not been ideal for anyone with the WC i don't think.

Not too sure about that mate. I think any Evertonian, myself included if we met him would like to shake that mans hand and buy him a pint after his 2 goals against Wimbledon. Took balls to take that pen that day plus he's an FA cup winner with us so in my eyes he will always be a favourite of mine, good player for us he was.

The self inflicted mistakes we need to cut out, bit more communication between them and they all need to remember how to pass a ball. The big concern for me though is we just aren't getting the ball in the box enough, we haven't done all pre-season, I know he's just a kid but Long just showed exactly what we are capable of if we get the ball to him in the box, brush up on that and we'll be just fine this season ;)

Good post that. I stand corrected on Stuart.

Reminds me of my own favourite Tony Cottee and being bewildered why hardly anyone else liked him
