Tim Howard

Agree with the above posts. He's improved immensely under the new coaching staff. He was always a great shot stopper but now his involvement in the game with his distribution has taken him to a new level. Whenever I see Joel in net, one of things that always strikes is just how good Howard's distribution and possession keeping is compared to a keeper who has spent more time with Martinez. Not a trying to knock Joel, like him but Howard's just on another level.

I love Howard but I have a feeling he's going to be our weakest link this season. He had what looked to the average fan like a great WC but to anyone paying attention his biggest flaw was exposed for all to see, I expect to see him get taken out quite a few times in one on ones with players lifting it over him this season.

What about all of the "non-average" fans that thought he was terrific then?

Ive always thought he is a weak link in our chain.

I thought he was terrific too, he lifted himself to sporting legend status in the states and gave Everton some brilliant publicity. That doesn't take away his deficiencies though, and going down too early in one on ones is a big one.

To be honest there aren't any better goalkeepers out there in our price range. There aren't many premier league goalkeepers I'd take over him. He has been a great servant to the club and last season was probably his best

You're absolutely right. However, every goalie and player has deficiencies. I don't believe it's enough to classify him as average. Luckily, with our current defense, he doesn't face a plethora of 1v1 situations.

That is why some forwards are realising, hold back and just chip it in, remember the WC.

In fairness to Tim, he wasn't given much support - especially against Belgium.

That is right but look at the other games, he does go to ground to much and spreading himself which makes him vulnerable to the chip, how many times do you see him leaving his line and taking the ball off the forwards feet. He is a good goalie alright but has weaknesses. IMo Nev was the best we ever had and after him Westie.

Fair enough. I'm just arguing that he is still indeed above average.
