Tim Howard

I personally feel he's been revitalised under Martinez, i believe it may be due to the fact that, Martinez is actually testing Joel, and meaning that Tim has to make sure he's number one, unlike the Mucha fiasco!

I hope he carries it on, his form in the WC shows it may. The Villa game just sticks in my memory, what a showing. I love him equally with Martyn.

ABJ - Anyone but Joel.

Howard rules out return to MLS. I love this quote!
"I signed a new four-year contract with Everton. If you cut me open, I bleed blue and I want to finish my career there. I can't foresee myself coming back. I think there was probably a chance before I signed the contract, but not anymore."

One of my favourite players.

A couple of his saves have turned our seasons, a penalty save against Defoe at Goodison a few seasons back right at the death being one of them.

Great signing at the time

Very rarely, if ever, does a team win something without a top quality keeper. The fact that Tim doesn't really have competition for his place isn't a problem so long as he keeps fit like he does. I think he's got two more seasons at least in him, then we might need to find his replacement.

Absolutly, the kind of commitment and comment one wants to hear from our players. I thank him wholeheartedly for his statement which I would say comes from the heart. He understands what it is to be part of Everton.

He does his best for us week in, week out, and for this he will also be a winner in my book. He's got the ability too, which naturally is the main thing. Even when he makes a (rare) error, you can see it hurts him. Some players you can see it just doesn't bother them, but with Tim Iroegbunam don't think he would play on if he didn't feel it in his heart.

He receives abuse now and then on here, which I find hard to fathom. Its easy throwing stuff at a guy after he's come for a cross and missed it but 9 times out of 10, nothing happens, and thats why the rare error stands out more with him, you just don't expect it. At Utd he was all over the place, for us, he has been nothing but immense.

On Irish TV, during the WC, that muppet Kenny Cunningham launched a scathing attack on Howard's abilities, calling him average at best. Dietmar Hamann and Brad Friedel just looked incredulously at Cunningham, and thats how I feel. How could you even dare to call him average?

Ironically, this was before the Belgian game and Tim went on to produce the mother of all performances, shoving it right in Kenny 'who did you play for again?' Cunningham's idiot face. Even Robbie Keane tweeted from LA that Cunningham was literally just a nob!

This, besides, when Neville Southall says you're a top class keeper, you can take that to bank:

''Tim has done brilliantly. He’s been a top class goalkeeper for a number of years now.''

What are you on about?
No coincidence that when we get a half decent backup keeper in Joel and a new GK Coach that Howard had his best season for us. 'No competition', the stick Joel gets is ridiculous IMO.

Like Pienaar great experienced player good for at least a couple of seasons.
Also like Barney said I too think he's improved under Martinez. Great year ladt year probably his best for the club.

His improvement this season also coincided with the arrival of Martinez and a different way of training and playing for all the defenders and keepers, having a decent back up is not the same as competition in my opinion. I'm not trying to be critical of Joel here, but I wouldn't pick him over a fit Howard.

Regardless, my point is that this isn't a problem, having a back up is okay in the goalkeeper position as keeper especially and defence generally is the one place where you shouldn't rotate too much.
