the problem we have is we have an ok youth setup

but how are we meant to compete when chelsea and man city sign their youth players from barcelona and abroad for 5-10 mil a piece when they are 16-17 and we develop ours for free

Whilst the idiot clubs are spending vast sums on players its impossible to compete, but dont forget our youth set up has kept us in this league since 1998 or so, and its vital that it continues to do so.

Just looking at the current standout youngsters and ones we hope to sign:

Stones
Besic
Mccarthy
Barkley
Lukaku

Half a team there of potentially top class players. Ledson seems to be the real deal as well so could have 6 top young players in the first team even ignoring the youth players being integrated now.

IF we get Besic & Lukaku we have a very promising young foundation for many years to come. Coleman, Stones, McCarthy, Oviedo & Barkley are all players that have at least 8-10 years left of their careers and have shown that they can compete at the highest lvl.

I remember getting all excited when we won the youth FA cup back in the 90's. Thinking we were set for decade of United like dominance with the likes of Branch and Cadamateri.

I remember going to the pub to watch a midweek game against derby on sky.

They had dean sturridge upfront who was in lethal form and we had michael branch....cant remember how many times he was offside.
