This post is simply boss. I have learned quite a bit about the club that chose me and am now toasting you through the interwebs from the Church Brew Works in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. A very fine establishment recommended to me by a Blue in this Forum (pardon my forgetfulness as I've imbibed in a few tasty craft brews already). Loving the Toffee brotherhood here in the GoT.

Sincerely,

a happy Phoenician

Is there a way to "agree" with a post instead if "Liking" it? Not that I doubt PaulieMc has a perfectly fine erection, I just don't fancy it myself. I just had a similar experience. This is awkward.
pos rep him mate. Easy as
*gives neg to bring back balance

I liked Everton before it was cool. Just kidding, we want to keep Everton away from the biggest evil my USA has to offer. Hipsters

“All the stuff I was doing was great. Kale salads and IPA’s are delicious, but you know what’s also fantastic: cheap stuff. Bud light, frozen chicken and pizza, Coke. Was I saving a lot of money on clothes? Absolutely. I mean, I was buying stuff from thrift stores that homeless people probably wouldn’t wear. And, because I rarely showered, my water bill had never been lower, but those discounts pale in comparison to the money I save when I go to Kroger and buy a half gallon tub of ice cream, instead of chive and lentil flavored froyo from Whole Foods Market.”

Awesome, I go to Piper's pub on matchday when I go back to Pittsburgh to see my folks. I'll try Church's sometime.

My only reservation about the USA becoming a major player in world football would be that they would try to get rule changes adopted. It wasn't so long ago that they forwarded ideas to replace throw-ins with kick-ins and even to have boards up the touchlines to keep the ball in play!
And commercial breaks. ?

Great post.
As an American and longtime blue (9 years now i think), I would have loved to have something like this initially. Some other things that will likely be of interest are things like the following:
  • Where did the name "Everton" come from? Everyone knows the city of Liverpool, is Everton an actual place too?
  • Relegation and promotion (nothing like this exists in the US and it is SO AWESOME)
  • FA Cup, Community Shield, Champions League, Europa, Capital One, etc. Understanding the regular season is easy, but all the different cups and tournaments that run concurrently is unusual to us. Especially for the competitions that are based on how the team did the season before.
  • You mentioned Stallone. Any other celeb fans to be aware of? I've heard rumors that Sir Paul McCartney is blue...
  • Any notable songs we should listen for? I always smiled when I could pick out "Follow, Follow, Follow" in the Arteta days and "Oviedo Baby", and "Grand Old Team" are easy to hear through the TV, but often I can't tell many others. A guide to the songs would be awesome if possible.
  • Not even a mention of Rooney? That's like a Cleveland not mentioning LeBron.

@Matt Damon used to frequent GOT

I feel genuinely sorry for any new Everton supporters, American or otherwise, and this is their first experience of Everton in a transfer window.

As an American and a blue just so you know if you are just getting into this sport I recommend changing the channel from the current Holland-Argentina match to Rise of the Planet of the Apes on FX.

President as Queen seems a little off-target as an analogy to be honest ... but for the record I couldn't care less if you did that. Call them both "Dorothy the constipated laughing donkey" if you like mate I couldn't give a toss about either of them.

If we were sat in a bar in New York City and you asked me to pass the chips (when you meant "fries") I wouldn't bother "correcting" you because I know what you meant. I'd just pass the fries. I respect YOUR culture -- regardless of where you happen to be located geographically at that moment. You are under no obligation to change everything about yourself just because you decide to spend a few weeks in the states.

The same for all the other countless minor differences -- if I know what you mean why bring everything to a screeching halt by making a big deal about how you were "wrong" to say chips or biscuits or flats or whatever? If I know what you mean then we have successfully communicated -- to "correct" you would frankly just be me being a C-word ... and that's the same word in both English and "American."

If you've spent 20, 30, 40 ... whatever ... years saying "zee" or "zed" you are probably going to "slip-up" at some point (or every point) ... I think it's more respectful of other cultures to acknowledge that and just ignore it rather than shine a giant spotlight on someone's "mistake" (the "mistake" of being raised and educated for decades in a certain way).

Well, if we all pronounce ZZ Top as Zee Zee Top, then everyone should say Zed Cars

After the World Cup, I don't think we need to mention Rooney for a little bit. Anyways, where did the name "Everton" come from anyways???
