Seen a few people mention 3-5-2 if the rumours are true and we are after BOTH Martins-Indi and De Vries. I guess this would be something like the depth we would have in defence;

LWB -- Baines/Oviedo/Garbutt
LCB -- Distin /Martins-Indi
CB -- Jagielka/Alcaraz/Duffy
RCB -- Stones/Browning
RWB -- Coleman/Hibbert (Kenny?)

Thats quite an interesting amount of depth to cover all competitions. Anyway, my real question was on midfield, would we possibly go with a diamond formation such as this:

DM--McCarthy/Gibson
LCM--Pienaar
RCM--Barkley/Ledson
ACM-- Mirallas/Osman/McGeady/Naismith

I'm just throwing a few names in there as I think that the system seems interesting but after signing 2 defenders (e.g De Vries and Martins Indi) and needing a centre forward we would still probably need 3 more midfielders.

How could this system work with our current players and a couple of additions as ut suits alot of our players now and plays to their strengths but could be tricky to implement?

Kenny is like 16. He won't be playing for the first team for at least 3 years, if ever. I think we'd need a backup wing back for Coleman, or be flexible enough to revert to 4 at the back if he's out.

The depth behind Jags in that system is a bit week as well, although Stones could fill in there as almost a sweeper type. We'd definitely need another CB or two for it to be a regular formation, and probably someone to backup Coleman in the RWB formation.

I do think we'll move to it though, Martinez seems to love it.

GK:Howard

RCB: Stones
CB: Jags
LCB: Distin

RWB: Coleman
LWB: Baines

CDM:McCarthy

RW: Mirallas
CAM:Barkley
LW: Tello

ST: Rom

I know it's unlikely that we will sign both Tello and Lukaku, but the look of that team makes me moist

People talk about formations like they are rigid, a good formation will adapt and change throughout a game.

Why change a formation that got us our highest Premier League points total last season??

I'm sure we can adapt to 3-5-2 during games if we need to, but don't see it as our primary formation. In my opinion.

Weve got alot of centre backs
Were linked with more centre backs
Martinez used it at wigan
Martinez tried it last season
Our midfield players are mostly central
Gets stones in the side
Enables baines and coleman to be wing backs

Only really have mcgeady as a winger now deulofeu has gone so perhaps he may fancy the change.

Kenny was more of a point towards the future with a couple of aub appearances perhaps.

Think adding the 2 dutch lads wed have a forminable defence and they can play a variety of positions across the back as well.

Just looking at the defence, I mentioned De Vries at the top of the post, heres how it could look if we signed both the dutch players;

LWB -- Baines/Oviedo/Garbutt
LCB -- Distin/Martins-Indi
CB -- Jagielka/Alcaraz/Duffy
RCB -- Stones/ De Vries/Bowning
RWB -- Coleman/Hibbert/Kenny

As others have said we would probably ned to loan a right back. However this defence looks incredible with youth on its side and would mean slowly moving to Martins-Indi /De Vries / Stones in a season or two with Jagielka there as well. Very solid and good for a decade.

I think thw tricky part is the midfield setup.

It'd be 3 cm like we used when we had system in place last year with 2 up top (used mirallas with Rom). Also, had some ofour best performances with 3 cm (Newcastle away, arsenal home). Up to Bob but would be nice to be able to switch it up
