Roberto's hour long interview

Very interesting stuff this - Roberto said that Tyias Browning 'had a very bad experience on loan this season'.

He went to Wigan for a couple of months, only played twice and was recalled from his loan early.
He went there in Jan which was about a month after Rossler arrived so it is a bit strange, Wigan certainly seemed better than under Coyle so though Rossler was a decent manager.

Ty seems pretty shy on his interviews, perhaps he is the type who takes a long time to settle somewhere different and Rossler didn't have the time to nurture him given his other pressures. Glad all seems to have worked out for the lad, getting u21 player award - he must have something about him to be a captain & for Martinez put him on the bench.

Listened the first 40 mins on my way to work. Very interesting :)

Love these interviews, so much info in these

...it is interesting. I know a lad on the Wigan 1st team staff so I will ask next time I see. I was chatting with him last week and asked about Rosler, he said he was a bit fierce, 'everything you would expect from a German'. A Wigan fan I know said Browning was unbelievable in the game he saw. This bloke isn't young and reckoned he's never seen anybody as fast on a football pitch. He was in awe, said he was definitely watching a future England international.

...another point to add, is that perhaps there is a bit of anti-Martinez feeling at Wigan with some of the staff. He chose the ones he wanted and left the others behind, so maybe resentment was taken out on young Browning.

Would be really interested to hear what your friend at Wigan says about why the loan didn't work out, it just seems so odd! I suppose Barkley's loan to Leeds was awful as well and that was certainly not because he is a bad player

Browning sounds a bit like a right footed Distin with quick pace & physically mentioned as his strengths. Might turn out to be an excellent partner for Stones, hope so as I love it when our youngsters come through.

Love them, great insight.
Wish they'd actual record it with some audio quality though ffs. Sounds like it's next to a massive air conditioner

...absolutely, as I posted Browning is supposed to be ridiculously quick. I think Warnock might've been managing Leeds and he said Moyes told him that Barkley couldn't be given a role requiring responsibility. Warnock took that on board and I think that was the reason he had a restricted loan period.

Right at the end of the interview...

'Enjoy the world cup'
Roberto: 'Yes definitely, I'm looking forward to seeing two or three, I hope they have a shocker of a world cup so that we can afford them'

Brilliant hahaha

Top stuff, I loved the part about the fall and rise of Naismith. Also, hope those 3 players do indeed have terrible world cups.

Yep, cracking interview. Love it when managers do this sort of thing and interact with the fans. As Roberto says, he just loves football so much that he'll talk to anybody about it and that's great to hear. This is the sort of thing Moyes really let himself down on, used to come across like he viewed talking to the press as a chore.

The bit I particulary enjoyed was when he spoke about Steven Naismith and how he's managed to come from being a pariah to a fan favourite. I admit, I was one of his biggest critics last season. Genuinely couldn't stand the sight of him, thought he was utterly useless and would tell anyone who would listen how God-awful he was. This season though, since Martinez has come in and not only given him confidence back but also played him in the right position, he's completely transformed himself. Although I still prefer seeing Barkley behind the striker, we're now seeing the player that so many made a fuss of up in Scotland. A clever no.10 who links up play and gets behind centre-halves to cause problems. Although he's not a crosser of the ball and isn't very fast, we've seen he can definitely finish if he gets in the right positions.

Always nice when you see a player turn things around for himself. Think I owe Naismith an apology and Martinez a massive well done for bringing the best out of him.
