Everton still in CL hunt?

We won 8 home games in a row...we never did that under Moyes....

You can see the difference in mentality, under Moyes we would score and shut up shop, under Martinez we go for 2 or 3. We never spend the last 15 minutes in full on defence like we did under Moyes. Moyes was happy with a draw Martinez is not.
I know for a fact it would be a draw because it happened every season for 8 years. Home bankers and we draw. We wouldn't of beaten Swansea either, it was the mentality.

Can you clarify that bit mate, are you actually saying its a fact it would be a draw as we never beat a lesser team at home?

Maybe you mean under the sort of pressure we're under now to get 4th? Big games against lesser opposition sort of thing?...

That's the end of last season.... Wins = Man City at home, Stoke... at Home, QPR.. at home, Fulham.... at home and West Ham... at home. Home bankers one might say.

Yeah we will lose or draw some, but your saying its a fact those games previously mentioned would be a draw because that's the way it is every season, we were mentally incapable of winning a home banker as you put it. I present to you 5 right there. A very small snippet of Moyes tenure in which we won loads of them.

Its a weird one for me this..... Its either we qualify for CL or in a weird way, don't want us to be in any european comp.

Well i do but i fear the demands of the europa league will destroy our league form next season. Our squad just isn't large enough. CL qualification will almost certainly generate the cash and attract another type of player and so thats fine. Europa league is a very distant second and you only have to look at the likes of Swansea and others before that as evidence that it can be hard to compete on all fronts with such a smallish squad.

Not this warped perspective again.

I still don't understand this mentality. We haven't quaified for Europa for a few seasons yet still haven't made that final push for CL. So not being in Europa hasn't helped in any way. So the argument seems to be, if we do qualify for Europa, we might only finish 6th or 7th, yet by not qualifying for Europa we have been finishing 6th or 7th anyway.
Unless you think we may drop down to 10th or something?

Did we not have a similar story last year when we went out of the FA cup almost to the day, then beat city, stoke and QPR to put us back in the mix for 4th, only to bottle it at Norwich and Sunderland?

Remember that Arsenal away was an absolutely massive game and was buzzing all day for it.

You simply cannot guarantee that we would of drawn against Cardiff... We may of won 4-0 in the first half for all you know. This is my point regarding the Newcastle game. The certainty that we would of lost games that we won last season, or failed to be in a situation we were actually in last season baffles me. Its been all season as well. Games we have had a 100% win records in for a decade had people saying we would definitely of lost that under Moyes. I think Martinez has overshadowed Moyes already, but in that shadow lies a lot of very good results people want to pretend didn't happen.
I'm a lurker on redCafe and the same thing is happening there in that Moyes supporters are going to strange lengths to dismiss Martinez's achievements this year and the anti Moyes brigade exaggerating them up to stick the knife into him.

I suppose its human nature

I tell you one thing for sure wouldn't have happened if Moyes was still in charge.

Ross's goal last night.

That came about because when the ball was cleared out our box from a corner the Barca lid was there to chest it down to Ross whom then went on his glory run.

Under Moyes we had eleven men in the box defending corners and when it was hoofed out there was never anyone outside the box to pick it up and start a counter attack.

And teams had time to ping the ball back into our area and EFC lost a lot of goals due to that "tactic".

Good post. I noticed the very same on here. People love picking sides. Fairness and perspective = irrelevant

Nope, we'd be fine. As we were the year we got to the quarters and finished 5th still with a weaker squad.

Warped ? well thats your opinion but its just what i fear.

I also fear we simply HAVE to make CL sooner rather than later too

no we dont if we cant maintain a level of success. We win an F.A cup or a league cup (for once) and maintain being where we are or there abouts then the club should financially at least stabilise. The greater exposure for the club uin europe and the chance to develop our own players could lead to us becoming the club that overtakes the likes of the red lot and spurs who see spending as a course of success.

Worst case scenario we are a selling club but then have a hell of a lot of money each year to then reinvest. Its all pipedreams with roberto at the minute but if he can achieve it then our club will be self sustaining.

Plus dont kid yourself, at this current time we would bomb out the champions league. we wouldnt be seeded so essentially 3 higher placed teams would be in our group, including a top side or two and as we seem to struggle away from home in the big games domestically then imagine going to munich or barca would achieve? the pot at the end of the rainbow is non existent if we struggle to win games. Considering city bombed out 2 years in a row, its not a un realistic assesment of our chances.

its been reported many times over that year we got to the quarters all the lads loved playing in it. They barely had to do any training because they were just playing competitive games constantly.

Realistically we should bomb out but so what, the fact we are in it and travelling around europe playing the elite teams when the world is watching is what its all about. Im also not kidding myself but what is your definition of bombing out ? 6 defeats out of 6 ?...... no chance.
