Nah I didn't watch the game. But he can't have done too bad if the game finished 2-1 away at Barcelona whist playing with 10 men for the last 10 minutes. I think he would still do a good job for us , and that he would be well worth getting in on a free. Not entirely sure he would come back to us though, I think he will have big money offers from Turkey.

Just so you know he got away with a stonewaller and could've been booked twice, and then later on was dire for Barca's first goal, failing to clear a pass that went straight at him.

In:

Loic Remy, rape charges dropped, 16 mill buy out clause.
Holtby, add a bit of flair to midfield.
Rodwell, if cheap enough.

Out:

Lukaku, can't afford to buy him and he is hit n miss.
Barry, good year but too expensive and will just get slower.
Alcatraz, injury prone, may get a few quid to bolster wages.
Gueye, was he ever in?
Hibbert, still good enough for a championship team or newly promoted prem team.

Bench/game time:

Lundstram, Green, Kennedy, Vellios (possibly last chance saloon), McAleney.

It's easy this management lark!!!!!!

Vellios' contract runs out in the summer. If he gets a renewal I'll be flabagasted.

Fair enough. Still, he was selected for Manchester City's biggest game of the season away at Barcelona. How would ANY of our central defenders perform in a game like that?

I reckon he can still hold his own in the Premiership. I think he is currently better than Stones, and he has a Netto price tag so he should be within our budget.

We absolutely cannot continue with 1 decent striker in our squad. Last time we had two good ones in decent form was 07/08. They scored 30 between them, AJ and Yak. We had our best season for years.

Lukaku and another good striker would be ideal, if completely unrealistic. Then we'd have to try and use whatever we have left on the other positions that need sorting out. The loan market will have to be used rather a lot.

As I said before he'd get in our team, I just disagree he's Europe elite standard.

Bit baffling to read shouts for players who come next season will be Lescott (32 in aug), Milner (29 in jan) and Podolski (29 in June)

are all 3 still pretty good, well yeah, but lets be realistic, all 3 will deteriorate over a 4-5 year contract, all 3 would have zero resale, all 3 would be on approx the 100k a week mark, and 2 of the 3 would probably command a fee upwards of 8-12m to actually bring in

all 3 of these type of signings scream out desperation and short term solutions which would eventual;ly cause a major wage issue down the line.

In our current financial position, we need to be looking for the likes of the McCarthy's, the Mirrales's, people like Tadic, Defour, mid twenties who are at or nearing their peak rather than on the down side of their careers, and getting that average first team age down a little, rather than bringing it up on expensive high wage (name players)

people shouting for Batshuayi for 10m or whatever, i find amusing though, for one i reckon with maybe dutch being the exception, not a single one of the people shouting for him over Lukaku has ever seen the lad play and are going purely on his youtube skeeeelz clips, kinda amusing as i think im the first person to have mentioned him on these forums back in august transfer window thread as well although i stated at the time that i only linked him cos he was some belgium under 21 lid like lukaku and benteke previously:P, fact is he could be a utter waste of money and we cant afford to waste it on a gamble when theirs the likes of Lukaku and Benteke potentially obtainable

Carles Gil being linked heavily, 6m buyout. Essentially Deulofeu for the man on a budget, he's very raw and lacks a finishing product. Very talented with the ball at his feet though.
