Garry Stanley who played for us in the late 70's early 80's today reaches the big 60. Anybody remember him getting sent off in the Anfield Derby?
Happy Birthday fella, enjoy your big day

It was October 1979

5 - Higgins
6 - Ross
8 - Stanley

Micky Lyons is holding Bob Latchford back, George Wood with King alongside him is holding Jimmy Case. Latchford is having a go at Souness with Ray Kennedy (5) and Johnson (9) next to him. Dalglish far left (7) Hansen far right.

Stanley and McDermott both sent off.

Game ended 2-2, I was on the left hand side of the Kop, about 1/3 of the way back

Not an evertonian but sat at the kitchen table having a laugh and a joke about this thread with none other than ............ Garry Stanley.

Hope I look as good at 60 as he does.

One correction for you. He wasn't a southern softie. He is a Burton boy !!
My apologies mate, but still south of Liverpool lol

Nice one, a very fit looking 60 is Mr Stanley ..... obviously fallen on hard times having to work as a dishwasher ! ;-)

The Mickey Lyons OG .... was that the derby where some stacked girl did an 'erica roe' the length of the pitch ? I can still see that ball going over George Wood and nestling in the net, nightmare stuff ..... Lyons had to be the most unlucky blue ever and despite the OG, he played a stormer that day.

Mickey Lyons was the Ossie of his day.

If the internet had been around then this place would seethe every time his name appeared on the team sheet :D

His nickname was Jonah.

But I always loved him....he could play centre forward as well as centre half.

A great Evertonian.
