Well, impossible to say as he has barely played for us under Martinez. The great fear is that he won't be the same player as before, which would be a great shame.

However RM has indicated that Gibson is very much a part of his long term plans, which must bode well.

He is much more controlled than Barry, he holds position more, and is more likely to play shorter balls to keep the play moving.

I love Barry, but he can be a bit of a maniac, dives in, which can lead to him bieng out of position. Gibson, is better at this.

Agreed

RM's nickname for Gibbo is Xabi. that tells me that, with RM's style, Gibbo will be with us for a long time to come. I certainly hope so.

I think Gibson is better when we don't have the ball, but Barry's all-round game is greater asset when we are in possession.

Agree... We've seen some players flourish under Martinez completely differently to with Moyes. Will be interesting to see how it works when Gibbo returns, always rated him highly!

I can see what you mean. But I always though Gibson was frustrated that the ball used to bypass him too much. He is very good on the ball, better that some think.

Barry can, at times attempt a tougher pass, when a simpler one is on. Gibson would play the simple pass. Good and bad in that I suppose, but its good to potentially have 2 slightly different options available.

I totally disagree with that. It's the total opposite imo.

Barry reads the game & anticipates danger better than any other midfield player we've got.

Gibson has a greater range of passing & gets into more advanced positions, so provides more from an attacking perspective

Think he's still the best passer in the squad. Just a shame he's so injury prone. If he was around to rotate with Barry and McCarthy I think we'd be looking much sharper in midfield.

Given the luxury of a fully fit squad there are going to be some interesting selection dilemmas. Mirallas for example looks ace playing off a front man but that asks the questions of where to play Barkley. Gibson, Barry and McCarthy pose a similar issue.

It would be nice to think that we would be in a position to rotate at some point - i'm sure there are games that favour Gibson or Barry whereas McCarthy's energy I think is always needed. Barry is great for me in terms of positioning and I also like the way he can 'switch the play' which is essential in a slow build-up sort of attach when Everton allow teams to get back and defend. Gibson seems favoured to the 'transition' a faster sort of attack which I think we've been lacking of late.
