Silly Season January 2014

Quick question... have most of you forgotten what Martinez said at the beginning of the month about not liking the January window? That he prefers shopping in the summer?

I did, and that's why I'm not angry... or even surprised.

Honestly he could have been playing mind games which we all hoped cause a squad relying on the likes of Osman, Naismith +all the injuries is not going to allow us to mount a realistic challenge on 4th, in a season when we have a real chance. It's actually massive let down, but we should not be surprised.

I'm honestly shocked that we got good dough for Jelavic, got rid of heitingas wages, and still didn't do anything above a free transfer.

I don't understand how people aren't fuming.

Just because Martinez says something doesn't make it okay, you know. You're actually allowed to disagree with decisions made by our manager without being a 'knee jerker'.

I've seen relatively little in the way of outrageous or fume comments on here, but rather a lot of logical angry posts from people who see this as a failure to make a real go of the top 4 spot.

Lets not turn this into a place where people are labelled 'knee jerkers' simply for not being happy with the status quo.

if it makes anyone feel better liverpool screwed up their transfer.

whats funny is all their fans saying FSG out, hilarious given they have the second highest net spend in the league since FSG took over.

Maybe if their managers didn't waste FSGs money on jarg players like carrol, aspas, allen and downing they would stump out a bit more !

I couldn't care less mate, I'm an Evertonian.

Its a lot of blues getting sucked into the circus of transfer deadline day. It follows the same pattern every year.

If there was the right player out there at the right price and within our budget that wanted to come to Everton then I don't doubt we would have signed him.

Instead the squad quite possibly ended the month stronger (injuries not counting like) than it started.

We got money, actual money, for Jelavic and rid of Heitinga. Neither positively affected the first team all season.

We brought in McGeady and Traore. We tied down Baines long term.

Let's see if it does work out stronger but there's every chance it will.

If not then its a cheese on toast window. Hardly the apocalypse that many are predicting.

Four points off fourth with some boss players to return from injury. Good times.

But because Jim White didn't say "and now over to Finch Farm" some people think 'oh wow what a crap window'.

We might be a little short on numbers at the moment, but get a grip blues.

This in a very large rock hard nut shell.

At least they have it to waste

Because Martinez said he doesn't like buying players in January, or something.

Even though he was at Finch Farm till half 10 presumably scrambling around trying to get a half decent loan deal in to paper over the cracks.

*shrug*

Martinez seems to have faith in the young players stones,Barkley have played a lot deulofeu in my opinion is class we have really missed him,Garbutt must be rated good enough to cover Haines but Distin can do that to.I thought Oman look good in the derby when he came on.Like I said I e keep fairly lucky with injuries we will be ok, it's the injuries that have slowed us down. The derby our worst result of the season was down to a poor defensive performance, they can't allow that to happen again and they are good enough not to.Also in the derby Jags,Alcatraz, pienaar and Barkley we not fit.Lets hope we get back on track tomorrow.

Would people have been happy had we spent a decent sum of money on covering short term injuries though? How many players of decent quality are going to because available for that without breaking the bank in January?

Not sure that there's any need to tell people to 'get a grip' because they're unhappy with todays events Groucho. You're better than that.
