Silly Season January 2014

There are some loan fees to add to that to.

I said that mate. If i'd have ignored them there'd be £28m.

By the way, not even counting the wages saved from offloading high earners like Neville, Fellaini and now Heitinga and replacing them with players clearly on lower wages.

How?

Jelavic & Heitinga out, McGeady & Traore in.

Explain.

if I could jump in for a minute.
Oviedo out for the season.
Traore not fit and not match fit either
Lukaku missing approx next 5-6 games
Pienaar not match fit
Barkley not match fit
Coleman and Distin injured

All of the above during January.

Del boy back next week but not match fit.

Traore replaces Jela, not fit but fair enough.

martinez said he wanted a body in to fill in for Gibson. No one.

Heitinga goes, martinez says there will be movement if he goes. No one.

I would say January has been a bloody disaster where a great 16-18 man squad has been stretched to a 12-13 squad. U need to be reactive and pro active to that kind of situation, all the more so when your 4 points off a CL squad. Just my opinion of course, but I think its a joke that we have not brought in a couple of bodies to help the lads out and who are now under severe pressure to not only get fit, but be back in the swing of things sharpish to make difference.

People have been arguing about what the reality is all day long, and a lot of people feel that a considerable amount of money should have been made available, but we have continued to shop at Netto and it just means that we will remain pretenders.

It is incredibly frustrating, and it seems like every missed opportunity makes it all the more likely that are status as pretenders will never change. It's the bypassing of what many people had considered to be a genuine opportunity that is the cause of such frustration.

Being an Everton fan means constant frustration i'm afraid

Quick question... have most of you forgotten what Martinez said at the beginning of the month about not liking the January window? That he prefers shopping in the summer?

I did, and that's why I'm not angry... or even surprised.

Look, it is martinez' first season, we are very lucky in my eyes to be where we are in the league at the minute and in with a chance of a trophy too considering this is our 'transitional season'.. we have to be patient i'm afraid.

Exactly - who expected us to be where we are now at the start of the season ? Expectations have been raised its true, but I think our form dipped starting with Sunderland, and with the injuries we've had is it any wonder we've slipped ? Never expected us to be within sniffing distance of a Cl place at this point and always thought that the Europa league would be the most we could achieve - it still is imo - we are still in the cup and TBH winning that would be magnificent !! I'm going as I always do, to Goodison tomorrow not to moan but to cheer on the blues sorry if that annoys some of you but tough **** !!

It hasn't made my night at all.

Just thought it was funny.

Sorry mate. Didn't want sound pithy. Just can't be arsed with the RS and their miss failings when we can't even keep our own house in order. Wasn't expecting huge signings, but was expecting a decent/couple/ of signings to keep us bubbling to maybe fighting for a top 4/5 chance. What with all the boys coming back in the next 2/3 weeks fully fit it may be a prudent move, only time will tell.

Its a lot of blues getting sucked into the circus of transfer deadline day. It follows the same pattern every year.

If there was the right player out there at the right price and within our budget that wanted to come to Everton then I don't doubt we would have signed him.

Instead the squad quite possibly ended the month stronger (injuries not counting like) than it started.

We got money, actual money, for Jelavic and rid of Heitinga. Neither positively affected the first team all season.

We brought in McGeady and Traore. We tied down Baines long term.

Let's see if it does work out stronger but there's every chance it will.

If not then its a cheese on toast window. Hardly the apocalypse that many are predicting.

Four points off fourth with some boss players to return from injury. Good times.

We have an absolutely critical month coming up which includes three winnable league games and a crucial FA Cup game - and we're going into all of those games without a striker, and a midfield one injury away from Leon "The Ghost" Osman starting in a holding role! How can people be happy about this?

Traore has yet to prove his worth and is currently injured. McGeady is a good addition. We've lost Oviedo for the rest of the season and Lukaku for at least 4 weeks.

I'm not buying that we're in a clearly stronger position than we were at the start of January.

This is the sticking point for me.

I can't help but think our budget is like 2p.

Totally agree with this mate, I'm really not happy.
