Silly Season January 2014

It has consolidated our position as pretenders when it comes to challenging for a Champions League place.

Maybe I am naive, but I actually want qualifying for the Champions League to become a reality, rather than this endless pretending.

If you want Everton to be successful, or at least be competing against the best teams in the world, you can't be happy with this window. We're not stronger than we were going into it.

If it wasn't for injuries, this would have been a pretty good window.

Irrespective of injuries, not at least loaning another Centre-Mid is a mistake for me.

Been a good season so far, I'd hate to see us fade away post-January like last season though.

Hopefully we'll destroy Villa tomorrow and GOT will be a much happier place.

Martinez has taken a massive risk here going with what we have got I hope it works out for him. One Thing to note he's shipping all moyes buys out every window.

We've lost Oviedo for the season and Lukaku for at least 4 weeks. Traore is still at least a week away from fitness. We're fighting for 4th place with four teams and don't have any fit strikers and only two central midfielders.

You can be ambivalent about it if you want, but as far as i'm concerned that means you're putting up with us being top 6, as we're not cracking the top four or pushing on now. No chance.

No Evertonian is happy with a top 6 position, regardless of age Evertonians are brought up on our glorious history and there is not a single Evertonian who does not want that to return.

It is disingenuous in the least to accuse fellow Evertonians of having lower expectations than you may have.

We can argue about how we might achieve those objectives, but surely we all want the same outcome?

Agree with this.

Behave lad. Losing to them doesn't mean we'll lose to Villa and Spuds. We'll probably take 4 points from those and 6 is possible. If we then beat Brian's Swans we'll be talked of as world beaters again.

When did we last beat Villa at home? They will be well up for it and we will be under pressure to get back on track after the derby.

Were four points off fourth place and playing some decent attacking togger.

In this window we got rid of Jelavic for actual money and Heitinga. Neither of whom have contributed to the team's performance this year.

We added McGeady for not a lot of money and loaned the massive African with the huge lash up front.

As has been acknowledged we tried to sign some cover in midfield but as also acknowledged it just didn't happen. The reason why its left to late in the month is because the whole system is one huge bellfest and clubs don't want to deal until the last moment. That's just how it is.

The whole transfer window has been turned into a huge whopper production for Sky with loads of jarg rumours - tittish ITKs (as I've been doing) and an unrealistic fan expectation for someone new and shiny to get over excited about and play with on FIFA before they eventually turn to plop.

Its been referenced before that Martinez does have some money and has also been established that he's waiting until the summer to spend it. I would hazard a guess on Barry's contract and Lukaku should there be movement on that. So it was a decision not to spend that budget right now unless the right player came up.

We are in a position as a football club where our owners don't invest money into the club which hinders us in trying to progress, but there's a whole other thread for that.

Like you I'm focused on having a boss Everton to make me feel all giddy inside so I would love nothing more to sign some aceness like the previous transfer deadline day but as explained above it has happened this time. Which is cool, I shouldn't have a sense of entitlement for it anyway.

Now the this whole tedious month is over we can get back to enjoying the togger, free from this whole circus of a sideshow.

Deulofeu is to return soon, Coleman too. Lukaku is out for a matter of weeks. Distin will be back before that and Gibson before the end of the season.

Not even mentioning that Leighton Baines has signed a new contract and commited himself to the club for the foreseeable future.

So don't be feeling glum you, yes YOU. Were still ace and hopefully will prove it in the remainder of the season.

The derby was a horror but these are still good times to be a blue.

Now pipe down and get this whole thread closed ffs.

Top post this, in all the doom and gloom nice one for pointing out Baines has signed again because plenty thought he might have been going a month back, and today most of us forgot about how important this deal is. Not a new signing but it is very important looking to the future

youll see i said potentially . my point being that it could happen before we have our 2 strikers fit.
we could potentially win every game and win the prem.
doesnt mean i think either would happen , but could

Why the patronising bit at the end. Do you think I don't want Everton to quality for the Champions League and snot all the best teams in Europe?

Of course I do. But there's also a large dose of reality which I hope I covered in my post.

This isn't Champ Manager and we need to not get sucked into the whole deadline day meltfest.

It wasn't a great window, it wasn't a bad window. Were four points off fourth.

Go get em Everton.

I remember similar last year. I then remember people fuming about how we messed up in the cup, and didn't finish 4th, and how it was all Moyes fault. The same people will probably do the same with Martinez if it goes the same way.

If money isn't spent (say 12 million which is about what we have recouped this year) in the summer, people will be right to be angry at the board.

Its all good and well saying 4 points off fourth, but we dropped 2 points at WBA, just got bummed in the derby, had a fairly dire window, and most of our best players are unfit/injured.

Do people seriously think after the next two games we'll still be 4 points behind fourth?

I still cant' fathom a reason as to why a CM was not top priority this window!! osman is nowhere near good enough to play in a deep role, if barry or mccarthy get injured we are well and truly screwed
