Red what's your opinion on the possibilty that Martinez knocked back the chance to manage your club by turning down the offer of the job prior to Brendan being appointed ??? Do you think that's true ???

I've just heard kopites with different thoughts on this, wondered what yours was ??

I brought this up with my RS mate on Christmas Eve and he wouldn't have it. Got in to a slightly heated exchange over it before he called me bitter. I refused to continue the conversation after that.

1834:
MANAGER REACTION - Chelsea 2-1 Liverpool
Jose Mourinho, speaking to BBC Sport: "I will start by showing my respect to every football player in this country. I love this period, supporters love it too, players love it too but it is hard. I'm speaking about every player in every club.

"It is a deserved victory but I'm sorry two of my players and two Liverpool players had to leave the field injured.

"I think my experience helps me to see things with another perspective - when I was Brendan's age I only saw things from one side.

"Lucas on Hazard is the real penalty. The situation on Samuel on Luis? That's a yellow card.

"If someone has to complain it is us. But we won't because we won."

Hahahaha. TROLOL Mourinho.

His name was mentioned when the owners were seeking a new manager. I believe that they may have even met with him. The owners did come out and say that Brendan was always their first choice. If you believe that, then I'd say it's not true. I mean, why would they lie? To protect the club? I seriously doubt it. You hear about managers turning down clubs all the time, such as Hiddink, De Boer, Van Gaal with Spurs the other week.

I believe what the owners said, but not for the reasons you'd think. I believe them because I don't think they are savvy enough to see that a manager turning you down might look bad for the club. They're American, and this sort of thing is discussed very publicly over there.

On the contrary, Martinez says he turned down the job. So why would he lie? This is the argument me and my mate were having.

Do you think Martinez turned down the offer to manage the redsh....sorry Liverpool ???

can you really call kelly a first teamer? that's like us saying duffy on loan at yeovil. Also Flannagan AND Enrique? They both play left back, for which you bought cissokho; agger played their today. You can't have them all in your match squad, therefore that's not really something to argue.

So you've listed 5 of your own players there, that's not really enough to go against my argument compared to the millions you've spent recently. I mean we had 4/5 out today, but still had Mirrallas, Pienaar Heitinga and jelavic on the bench. Not great no, but their all prem quality and only our 3rd choice keeper who made the bench today is a youth player.

surely this shouldn't happen when you compare both team's finances?
I didn't say Kelly and Flanagan are first teamers. I was answering how we ended up with two academy kids on the bench.

I'm not arguing. The squad is thin. I was just answering the question.

I think Kelly is a first teamer personally. I think he's a decent player. Can't really comment on Flanagan, though.

Oh really? I was unaware of that. Do you have a source?

I'd be interested to see his reason for turning it down. My gut reaction would be why would he?
