ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

Genuinely amazed at the amount of RS on my Facecock celebrating being top at Christmas like it is a trophy.

They really will claim any thing.

mate you have simple replies to them really. Who was the last team to be top at christmas and not win the league? Liverpool. I also saw that the last 3 times they've been top at christmas they haven't gone on to win the title. so this will be 4. Please bump them all at the end of the season.

there's also the fact that without having to go into a stupid RAWK frenzy making up points based on opposition etc, all that ****, they've argubly had the easiest first 17 games out of anyone in the league as imo they have yet to play the two teams who i think will finish top 2 at the end of the season.

Perhaps not. But it makes a huge difference to our style of play, most importantly how much space he affords Suarez (and Sturridge). When he and either Suarez or Sturridge play (even if it's only one of them), we've rarely lost. When Coutinho's out is when we have suffered the most defeats. And we have no adequate cover for him.

i have watched him countless times fail to deliver. think suarez creates them gaps himself tbh, he takes defenders out of the game. coutinho does nothing of the sort.

why don't you have a backup may i ask? You have spent probably billions in the last 4/5 years on attackers, surely that's enough money to buy more than one attacking midfielder?

The over celebrating of being joint top on Christmas day is going to look a tad daft when they're sat 5th come 7.30 on Boxing day..............

Obviously I'd be made up if we were top at Christmas but the league's so tight at the moment you can hardly read anything into it. Any one of the top 5 are a dodgy run of form away from being flung out of contention.

With the games they've got coming up maybe they're right to make the most of it whilst it lasts.

RED what I want to know is ... Will you be participating in the joint Man City and Liverpool Yaya/Kolo chant on Boxing Day?

Lets be honest, being top at any time of the Year is amazing, let them enjoy their Christmas, the new Year will bring them a touch of realism.

Exactly this, I'm not arsed about getting all of the crap about them being top of the league tomorrow from all of the kopites in my family (2 blues who actually go the game and about 50 reds who love the pub ). Good on them. Let them have their moment, we know what's coming. Come New Year's Day it will be me with a smile on my face as they get brought back down to earth.

Being top at all is great, but going on about it like it's something they are used to is not only pathetic but very very naive.

What are you on about? He's played 25 games and was absolutely on fire for the first 13. Where are these countless times coming from? To illustrate my point, if memory serves, since he joined, we've only lost 1 game in which he has started.

To be honest, it's hard to replace a player like that. There aren't many 21 year olds who have played at the level he has that can go straight into a first team as a play maker. We have attacking midfielders. It's the like-for-like replacement that is difficult.

As for our transfer spending, it is complicated by a change in owners and changes in manager. Our spending is not as high as you'd think, particularly when you factor in wages, and the amount recovered from sales. Obviously it is higher than what you guys typically spend, but that's not saying much.

In the last 5 Years you have bought £302million worth of players.
We have bought £64m.
United have spent £229m.

But yeah, complicated.

in case you haven't noticed mate, i'm an everton fan so of course i haven't seen every one of his 25 games. i have seen him in most of the games vs the better teams in the league though and well, his name doesn't get mentioned. 1 goal and 1 assist this season. Leon Osman - 2 goals and 3 assists.

if he's as good as you say he is, why were a team who finished 9th in the not so highly rated italian league not too arsed about him leaving?why couldn't he get in there team?
